WELL I DIDN'T REALLY GO BANG, I WAS RIDING HOME AS NORMAL AFTER WORK AND WHEN I STOPPED STEAM ERUPTED FROM THE BIKE. IT DROPPED COOLANT BUT NO OIL ,BUT LET GO A LOT OF STEAM.I JUST FITTED A PIPERCROSS AIR FILTER AND A NEW CLUTCH CABLE AND IT RAN LIKE A DREAM ON THE WAY TO WORK BUT NOT SO ON THE RETURN JOURNEY. IT DID BUMP START WHEN I GOT HOME BUT WOULD NOT START FROM THE BATTERY. OK SO I THOUGHT MAYBE THE SPARK PLUG WAS KNACKERED. SO I PUT THE STANDARD PLUG ON AND BUMPED IT AND I RAN BUT IT WAS VERY ROUGH. STILL NO OIL COMING OUT BUT I FEAR A NEW ENGINE OR A VERY SERIOUS REBUILD IS REQUIRED.

PS

WHEN I TRY TO START ON THE BATTERY IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS FLOODED, TURNS OVER BUT DOES NOT FIRE, BUT WILL AS I SAY BUMP START..........

SORRY TO RANT , BUT I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SUNNY DAYS OF RIDING, AND NOW I DONT THINK ILL BE ABLE TO PAY FOR THE PETROL............

(1994 RS 125 EXTREMA) ROTAX 123 ENGINE I THINK)!!!!!!!!!!!

CHEERS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

REGARDS

JOHN

Hi

Where is the water coming from?

Best case scenario you have just dislodged a clip on a water hose when fitting the cable / filter.

All the best

Keith

caps lock now fixed thanks

but bike is still buggered

you are probably right about the pipe coming off as the water appears to be coming from that area (rad) . but i would of thought it would have blown off due to the pressure i.e head gasket, ive been told its probably the piston or a piston ring that goes first usually. so some engine work will be required.

i am thinking the worst, there is a rotax 123 engine on ebay for £160 which would be an easy fix but i wouldn't know the condition of the engine until its fitted

rotax 123 for 1994 aprilia is correct i think?????????????

cheers

Hi

Doing the head gasket on a Rotax 123 engine is very easy. The "gasket" is 3 rubber O rings. One seals the head to the barrel (the only one that is under real pressure), the other 2 seal the cylinder head cover to the barrel / head.

This is certainly far easier than swapping the engine over.

Check where the water is coming from exactly as that should let you know.

It is possible that it has snapped a ring, especially if it has seriously overheated. Best thing to do there is a compression check to see how it is.

All the best

Keith
