Hi
Doing the head gasket on a Rotax 123 engine is very easy. The "gasket" is 3 rubber O rings. One seals the head to the barrel (the only one that is under real pressure), the other 2 seal the cylinder head cover to the barrel / head.
This is certainly far easier than swapping the engine over.
Check where the water is coming from exactly as that should let you know.
It is possible that it has snapped a ring, especially if it has seriously overheated. Best thing to do there is a compression check to see how it is.
