I have a 2000 model full power RS 125 With 15,000 kms on the clock. Its been working mint since I got it in August last year but recently the engine has lost power somewhere.

Firstly from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm the bike starts dieing and tries to cut out, you have to keep on the cluth to get it going why is this happening???

Also the power valve isnt as responsive as it was, from 4th gear its struggles when it gets to 8,000 rpm and slowly builds up to 11,000 rpm even though it used to fly from 8,000 rpm to 11,000 rpm in all gears???

Ive had a new piston kit put in less than 50 miles ago and the air filter and power valve were both cleaned out!!!!

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP AS ITS REALLY PISSING ME OFF, CHEERS Very Happy

Hi

I really hope you are not taking it to 11000rpm only 50 miles after a new piston was fitted.

Have these problems occured just since the piston was fitted?

Rough ideas, power valve sticking, power valve upside down, piston wrongly sized (there are several sizes to get the clearance correct for the barrel), blocked air filter, blocked carb jet, etc.

All the best

Keith

I havent bin taking it to 11,000 rpm since the new piston but the problem was happening before the new piston and i thought a new piston would help, but obviously it hasnt.

Ive cleaned the air filter and power valve out but not the carb, i will try that.

Hi

That is strange. It has just lost power, not misfiring or anything? Is the idle at normal revs? Not overheating? Can you see the power valve operating (should be visable on the solonoid under the tank, it should be open below 2500rpm and close from there to around 8000rpm where it opens again)?

Without looking I am at a loss with what you have said so far without clutching at straws (eg, 2 stroke oil pipe disconnected, gearbox oil very low, someone shoving something in the silencer).

All the best

Keith

Idle on the RS125 is "1500rpm, plus or minus 100."

I reckon it sounds like fuel starvation, cleaning the carb out might help. Also make sure that the power valve is correctly adjusted, opening when it should be.

Cant add anything as Kickstart has said most of the likely possibilities. Razz

Good luck. Thumbs Up

Hi

The solonoid for the power valve is a gold coloured cylinder on the inside of the r/h frame rail.

All the best
