 |
|
As the tilte suggests, I am planning on riding the 120 miles to my girlfriends on my rxs as I'm sick of the train! So what do you think the chances of me making it are? It's all a and b roads and I'll be making a few stops and taking it easy all the way there. Any advice would be much appreciated. ____________________ Yamaha rxs100 > Kawasaki ZZR600 > Kawasaki ZX6R > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda Bros 400 > Suzuki SV650S K2

My brothers used to live in brighton and come home to london every weekend. usually involved 2 trips a week for 6months on an RXS. Just make sure its maintained, it'll be fine. Do take breaks.
I rode my rxs100 to Canterbury from london several times (and back). Again not a problem. ____________________ Travelling around the world...a bit at a time. Where am I now? / Visit my BLOG

Four hours each way on a 100(?)cc bike? Are you a masochist?
There's no reason to suppose you shouldn't make it, but I certainly would not try to travel both ways in a single day, and you'll probably not want to do it again very often. (I could be wrong of course)
The longest trip I've made on my 125 4t bike was about 85 miles and that was really enough for me, the thing is just far too slow and was revving about 8-9k rpm for most of the way, so the vibes and noise (and mechanical sympathy) get to you.
Still, if you want to, go for it! ____________________ I must not be a troll...

I rode my H100 to Anglesey and back (about 110 miles each way) in the same weekend on several occasions. Did the Farmyard Party on it last year (150 miles each way) with no problem.
I can't see that your RXS would be that much different.
The trick is to take your time, stop as often as you feel you have to, and give the bike a check over before you set out in each direction. Is your chain lubed? Tyres OK? Plenty 2T oil in the reservoir? Brake fluid levels OK? Plenty oil in the engine? etc etc.
My bike would pootle along at 60 without redlining (although not necessarily uphill!) which on a bike of that size and weight was sufficient - any faster and the front end used to get a bit hoppy!
The same bike did Silloth to Stormin The Castle in Co Durham last year with Stinkwheel's mate on it, and I belive that Stinkwheel also has undertaken some pretty epic journeys on it since he bought it off me.
You will be fine. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Top up on oil, plan your route, money, moblie etc, take your time and you'll be fine. I've done a 400 mile round trip on a 51 plate NSR with no probs.
Preperation.

When I was lending my RXS100 to a mate in Hinckley, 80 miles away, NKD666 rode it up there.
According to Big Pete and Bizzie Lizzie he was grinning like a Cheshire Cat when he got there. His own steed at the time was a Triumph Speed Triple.
MUCH funnier, however, was the fact that Big Pete road it to the MOT shop. Now, I would hesitate to hazard a guess at BP's weight, but he is about 6'4" and built like the proverbial brick shithouse, only it's a brick shithouse with all mod cons!
If my RXS managed Big Pete, your bike will be fine! ____________________ With experience comes age. |
