I bought a paddock stand from a place in Rotherham about a month or two back. IIRC it was £16.99, Bargain I thought.

I'll be making a trip back down there soon to return it as the damn thing collapsed yesterday. Shocked

Luckily I have the reflexes of a well oiled puma and managed to dash over and grab the bike before it came tumbling down. I was not in a good mood Evil or Very Mad

I though maybe it the way I fitted it, so I tried again and the damn thing bent under the weight. It should easily be able to hold a sports 600.

Ill try and get a pic up later today so you know what type im on about.

Shocked That could of been an expensive paddock stand if you didn't catch the bike.

I know this is an odd concept these days, but a tenet I've always had great faith in:
You gets what you pays for.

Hi

I have one of those and if those bolts are not done up very tight then it does the same. Cheap but not really much use. Will replace it with a useful one at some point.

All the best

A square/ rectangular section paddock stand should be a fair deal stronger than a circular one, but they're obviously correspondingly more expensive. Alternatively, a bit of triangulation wouldn't go amiss.

£50 for front and £60 for rear however.

Christ.

No idea how much mine were, but I found a front and rear left for the binmen one week, so I half inched them.

Mine seem to hold the TZR just fine.

I've got one that I paid about £20 for from the bike show and it's always a little bit of a bodge to get the bike to sit on it (due to the shape of the swing arm) but nothing like that Shocked

Well done for catching the bike - it's amazing how much more quickly you react to your bike going over.

The cheapo ones do have a small amount of triangulation to strengthen them, just other to stop the joints rotating where they bolt together, and it seems the bolt holes elongate.

All the best

I've had a Gixxer 750 on one of those no probs, but my ZXR4 fell off it, swingarm doesn't like them. Evil or Very Mad Just use it for my brothers NSR now. Gonna get a Micron stand for the ZXR though.

I'm sure it would serve admirably as a paddock stand for the average 125, so fit for that purpose maybe.

As an aside, Thumbs Up for the micron stands, the one I currently use will sling 500-600lbs odd of ZZR around with little or no problem.

They are done up very tight mate. I'ts hard to make out in the pics but the bolts go about 5mil clear of the nuts on both sides. I havent bothered taking it apart yet to see how its damaged. maybe tommorow.

Thing is its a 1 1/2 round trip in the car. Is It worth taking back or should I just buy one locally?

I really detest paying the £40 or so thay cost. I know its an invaluble tool but FFS its only a tube of metal on wheels. I just feel like Im getting ripped off somehow.

Im going to the BMF show so will prob hang on till then. Hopfully i'll be able to pick up a quality one for £20-£25 or so.

Just wait until someone you know has no bikes that fit a micron stand so they sell it cheap. They then buy a bike and need a paddock stand but were to stpuid to think about it when they sold it.

Cheers Yams. Wink

Unless they specify a maximum laden weight, you would be within your rights to assume that it's deisigned to take the weight of a "motorcycle"... no specification of size of engine or anything else..

To quote the Sale and Supply act ('94):
Quote:
For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.

Given the disparity in weights of all things "motorcycle" then there would be a solid argument stating that price was indeed relevant in this context Wink This is pointless anyway, for all I/we know the packaging did indeed have small print stating it was/wasn't suitable for certain weight ranges. Just irks me occasionally when the old "fit for purpose" chestnut is pulled out, like all lengthy legal documents it is an awful lot of hot air and waffle that any decent thinker can tie in knots. Reminds me, anyone read the european declaration of human rights recently? That one's hysterical Sick

FZR6, it really is a worthwhile investment to pick up a decent one. It's like any tool for the garage, buying quality almost always pays for itself in the end. Took me so many skinned knuckles and broken sockets/spanners to work that out Confused

totally agree... what I'm doing tho... is starting off with a cheapo box-set to give me the basics.. £30 or so for most sizes of spanner and socket.. and then replacing them when they break (or I'm missing something) with facom/snapon/halfords professional thyat's a alot less frequent,. and a lot cheaper on a case by case basis than buying a complete set of fancy tools.. OR ending up with onlt a couple of spanners cos it's all I can afford..

also means.. the ones that break are also the one usually most often used.. so it's worthwhile making them good ones..
