How about an old sv650s as they ares cheap to insure and you get loads or performance for your money especially since the new style frame etc came out You can get a very good bike for little money.

My actual MZ and TZR are on this page: https://www.bikepics.com/members/gazdaman/
The TZR doesn't particularly look like a bike at the moment, but you can see some nice examples:

The MZ would be a smart choice, but the TZR is the prettier choice.
I'm smart and pretty, I bought both. Just to keep the 600 company.
EDIT: and the bike above is a hyosung comet 250, they make a 125 and they make an SV650 competitor. They're good bikes, but not particularly cheap enough to make them serious competition. There was a review about them in a magazine recently. They liked the 650.
The comet 125 is also a gorgeous looking 125. A good bike.

Can vouch for the MZ,
handle brilliantly, run on a pittance, reliable, economical for a two stroke, brilliant owners club full of good old boys.
I ran a ETZ 301 Kanuni for 70,000 miles of fun as a courier tool and as a second bike, only thing that went was one brake light switch and a speedo cable.
This is a 251:

Not pretty but they're good machines.
The TS/Supa5/ETZ 250/300(ETZ only) have a longer frame and are better on the motorway/
The ETZ 251/301 have a beefed up ETZ 125 style frame, and handle better in the twisties than the earlier ones.[/url] ____________________ GSXR1100J |

That has a nice sort of earthy appeal to it. It's my kind of bike, there're no extraneous bits of plasticky junk to break or get in the way.
It's a bike and nothing more. It has two wheels, an engine, brakes, a seat, fuel tank and a few lights. Looks indestructable too. ____________________ I must not be a troll...
