If you don't want something thats going to blow up but is still quick etc go for something like a hornet 600 as the insurance wouldn't be that different if you went for a sport 400 maybe even cheaper

My MZ 250 fills all of those except the last one.

Very cheap to buy, very cheap to run, very cheap to insure.

I had the speedo go off the dial yesterday. (the speedo stops at 80mph but the needle doesn't!).

Very cheap to insure, doesn't loose its value, cuz it's worth fuck all to begin with.

They are very comfortable.

I know you won't pay much attention to this suggestion, but I'll assure you it is a good suggestion if you want to save money and not have a ridiculous bike.

Failing that, it's a TZR250 all the way, insurance won't be very very cheap, but not horrible. You can pick up a nice one off ebay for <=£500. And they look gorgeous, go like stink and don't lose much value because they're cheap to begin with.

They may go bang though.

How about an old sv650s as they ares cheap to insure and you get loads or performance for your money especially since the new style frame etc came out You can get a very good bike for little money.

Very Happy Very Happy

My actual MZ and TZR are on this page: https://www.bikepics.com/members/gazdaman/

The TZR doesn't particularly look like a bike at the moment, but you can see some nice examples:

https://www.bikepics.com/pictures/067012/
https://www.50cc.nl/images/tzr250-2.JPG
https://www.strappe.com/tzr250.jpg

The MZ would be a smart choice, but the TZR is the prettier choice.

I'm smart and pretty, I bought both. Just to keep the 600 company.

EDIT: and the bike above is a hyosung comet 250, they make a 125 and they make an SV650 competitor. They're good bikes, but not particularly cheap enough to make them serious competition. There was a review about them in a magazine recently. They liked the 650.

The comet 125 is also a gorgeous looking 125. A good bike.

Can vouch for the MZ,

handle brilliantly, run on a pittance, reliable, economical for a two stroke, brilliant owners club full of good old boys.

I ran a ETZ 301 Kanuni for 70,000 miles of fun as a courier tool and as a second bike, only thing that went was one brake light switch and a speedo cable.

This is a 251:

Not pretty but they're good machines.

The TS/Supa5/ETZ 250/300(ETZ only) have a longer frame and are better on the motorway/

The ETZ 251/301 have a beefed up ETZ 125 style frame, and handle better in the twisties than the earlier ones.[/url]

Thumbs Up
That has a nice sort of earthy appeal to it. It's my kind of bike, there're no extraneous bits of plasticky junk to break or get in the way.

It's a bike and nothing more. It has two wheels, an engine, brakes, a seat, fuel tank and a few lights. Looks indestructable too. Smile

It's expensive for what it is.

The SV650 which can be got for less money second hand is considered a better bike.

Rather than looking at a specific capacity, why not look at a specific power range?

250cc bike can range from about 15hp to 65hp or so. So some 125cc can make over the power of that lower limit while some 1200cc bikes make about the same power as the upper figure suggested.

Have you considered a trail bike?
Something like a DR350 is just on the 33hp limit, easy to maintain, crashes well and doesn't cost that much to fix up if things do go wrong.

You won't get cheaper fun than an MZ 251.

I don't think they're bad looking at all, add some sticky tyres, some new bars are a must IMO.

But they do make a poor amount of power, around 17 untuned, but the race ones put out about 30.

Still good for overtaking in the fast lane of the M25. If you're anywhere near me you're welcome to take mine out for a spin.

I'm about to add some hayabusa footpegs to it, as at the moment my feet are actually further forward than my hands which is ever so slightly off-putting.
