maybe your ecu is screwed.there are a number of "specialists" over on

www.125ccsportsbikes.com

who know the rs125 inside out (literally) who may be more help. as the majority of people on here ride bigger 4stroke bikes.

Think you'll find mate, there are a lot of people here who can be classed as "specialists" amongst other things. Just because people ride "bigger 4stroke bikes" doesnt mean we / they dont know their stuff when it comes to the smaller bikes...

has the ECU been modded to remove the environmental dip? Fairly easy to do, remove ECU and dig the silicone out of the back, snip the bridge, re-seal, re-fit and mod complete. Hopefully will get rid of the dip. And im a 'big bike rider' too, but we all have to start somewhere!

good luck

Wink

Hi

The cdi mod is to get round a flat spot that is engineered in between 5000 and 6000rpm. It has no effect outside that range. The power valve should open at 8000rpm (give or take 200rpm).

As such from the description it sounds like neither of these.

Added to which he said RD125. In which case it could be numerous things, but such a bike is likely to have a large flat spot at half peak power. Not much you can do to get rid of it without loosing the peak power as well.

All the best

Keith

My RS125 had the same problem, until it reached 81 degrees in the engine, then it was fine. Is your bike running at the right temperature?

Oh, I thought that was normal temp. Maybe my power valve was playing up too? Although I did ride fast everywhere, trying to stay with 1000cc machines down the twisties!

Never mind, I sold it last year! tee hee.

Hi

About 80 is the correct temperature. The thermostat does not even open until the mid 70s.

All the best

Then my bike was fine. I hate when I get doubts in my head! tee hee.

Well, as stated above, my engine wouldn't run freely until it was completely warm, at 80-81 deg C.

It would struggle to get over 6000rpm. But then I was doing 80-95mph from Nottingham to Chesterfield on it daily and some sunday rampages! Laughing

If your bike is an 03 or newer then its normal, you need to do the cdi mod to remove the dip,it wont solve the problem totally(will get a minor splutter).

When i got my 04 it was just like a brick wall and didnt want to go past 6000rpm unless you changed down a gear until i did the mod.

For advice on RS's i highly recommend 125ccsportsbikes.com or apriliaforum.com some good advice available on both sites, but also a lot of childish spam.

Not if its the standard carb, you wont need to touch that unless you fit an aftermarket exhaust,it is jetted very rich and the standard exhaust on 03 and above has a catalytic convertor,it only needs rejetting to fit an aftermarket one.
