Morning!
Just been out on the new bike for a test run (a couple of biggish mechanical problems, but you can go and see those in the Workshop forum ), my god it's hard to steer when you switch to a faired bike!
I almost came off at the first corner when I turned the handlbars, and the front of the bike didn't seem to move. I assumed (wrongly!) that the fairing was attached to the handlebars, it feels so wierd that it is fixed but the bars move!
How long did it take people to get used to this? I was out for about an hour, and still found it strange. |

I love the way my bigger and heavier bike cruises through corners and stays nicely planted even when quite leant over. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. I went from a little SR125 to a "big" GS500, less of a jump in power than I thought, but scarey steering! |

Hmmmm, mostly, I can't steer the smaller 125's!
I had a Hornet, then a firestorm, then an RS125 and finally my TL1000R and I never had a problem with steering.
If you positively think about counter steering, you will simply add more pressure and get the thing over just as quick. If you have no idea how you turn the thing, (ie, you just want to turn and it does) then you will struggle.
Try reading this, it might help: Cornering Skills, The basics.
and:
Don't Tense Up.
You might want to look at this as well: Don't Stare at Trees.
And for slightly more information, try looking at these: Who's Round the Bend, and catch My Drift?.
I'd recommend reading these, i wish someone had told me about these things when I started riding, ie, before I started crashing!
Hope these help alittle. ____________________ TL1000R Parts For Sale! |

I used to be terrible going between bikes, took me ages to get used to them and then I didn't like jumping on another bike, different riding position etc.. now though I can jump on most bikes and ride fine.. you get used to it with experience, before long you'll find the faired bike fine, and would be able to change between bikes without noticing the difference ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Having just gone from a Virago to a GSX, the differences were very noticeable at first; the seating was wrong, my shoulders, neck and wrists ached for two days, I couldn't see the front of the bike and finally, OHMIGAWD I'M LEANING IT OVER SO FAR I'M GONNA LOWSIDE IT!!!
I got used to it very quickly. ____________________ "That's it. You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college."
