 |
|
I've got a few mates who ride bikes on the restricted licence, one has the papers to claim its restricted, the other has no papers, no restriction, the police never seem to quiz it, even if they've been pulled...and I know most people on here have full power bikes, seems like it isn't really enforced, do the police just not know the law with regard to bikes, or just don't care? Seems strange that so many get away with it, as no one seems to get away with having no tax, or MOT for very long... |

That's because to check it you wither need to be caught speeding at over 110MPH or the Police need to take off the Fuel tank whatever to get into the carbs. Even if they have the paperwork.
I still have mine in. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. insurance thing mostly, say you crashed and the insurance folk sends someone out to survey it they'll know exactly what to look for and they'd take it apart to see if their was a restrictor or not (means the difference between them paying out and not having to pay) ____________________ -=[Sam/b]=- cx500's the only way to travel, we do it in style just like jimmy saville

The only reason I would want my bike derestricted after only 5 days of riding is that apparantly acceleration is faster. Which would be handy for overtaking. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Damn right it does Jonny Boy!!!! In any case, derestriciton ALWAYS improves acceleration. I think ____________________ My NSR --> https://members.boards.ie/instinct/Diagonal.jpg

As most of you probably know by now i have a GS500 and thats got the restrictors in, and will continue to have them in for two reasons. 1) People without the 33bhp limit arent realy interested in a 10 year old commuter bike with a top speed of 115mph. So keeping the restrictors in, is one of its very few selling points
2) IMO keeping the 33bhp is about keeping yourself safe (as well as reducing the chance of being raped analy by the law).
Dont get me wrong, i regularly get absolutely pathetically bored of the power exerted by the GS, but then i stop and actually think why its there, and just think to myself, "Its All Just Character Building". (Which is also what i told myself when i was riding home in the pelting rain and hail in jeans and a hoody at 11pm on my 50cc GSM at 16 )
So to those who keep those annoying little plates in for the whole 2 years! ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

I've kept mine in the ZX6R. Only a year and 2 days left. Main reason is the power would be difficult to control with my experience and i wouldn't want to shell out for insurance costs.
I read on another forum about some guy who got caught out by the insurance on a bandit i think. It was crushed by the police, the guy got 12 points for no license tax mot or insurance and as well as being fined quite alot had to pay for all damages done. Puts me off tbh. Also my friend has a zx6r and is unrestricted and he can't really handle the power so he is getting it restricted this week. |

Yeah mate, crack it open when over taking someone and it's a second (total guess) or so before you're past them, compared to restricted, where it's a good couple of seconds. The less time you spend over taking (espically on single carriage ways) the better. I don't really understand anyone who says they can't 'handle' the 100bph. I must admit, I do struggle to keep things smooth on my friends R1, but a 600, I've never had problems with, it's just a cast of throttle control. I have respect for anyone that keeps thier bikes restricted for two years though. Very sensible people, need more people like that imo. And you don't need more than 33bhp to do all the cool tricks on bikes. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

My bike is restricted and I intend to keep it that way for the rest of my 2 year restriction. I have about a year and 10 months left but then I don't want to take the risk of getting caught with them out, even if it is a minimal chance of getting caught.
As said before, I do get completely bored of the power at times on my bike but I just live with it and I'm sure at the end of my restriction I'll get somekind of satisfaction out of it. |
