Hello everyone! im new to the forum, a "newbie" if that word still exists. . .

how you all doin?

bought a 3rd hand NSR 125 import from Germany yesterday for £850. Very rare colours.

Been dropped once with minor scratches to the exhaust and a bad custom touch up... but looks rather nice. Im just wondering why it only goes 60 mph. Shouldnt it do 75 or something like that?

Never ridden a geard bike before, so am getting used to it rather fast indeed.

Maybe i can get a few tips of you guys and gals if i ever get into trouble..

Probably restricted, should be able to get about 90 out of it.

Jon I am sure everyone would be happy to help. The reason your bike is only going 60 is probably due to the fact it is still restricted. It will most likely have a restriction in the intake (a metal plate reducing the air flow) a narrowing pipe in the exhaust and probably a CDI restriction.

If you need more advice just shout, I know a lot of people can go into a lot more detail than me Smile

Welcome too Thumbs Up

Depends on how they restrict their bikes in Germany.

Not knowing anything about bikes/not owning a bike in mind... Can you reach the redline? Is there a throttle restricter?

Think 60 would be a sensible figure for a restricted NSR, cant think why a learner would want to go much faster than that either! Wink

Actually thats a good point. Mine does 80 indicated and it is still restricted (had a go at getting the intake plates out one day but they had these un-doable nuts on them so left it). I imagine it would still be restricted in the exhaust too as thats what the seller said. So yea you should be getting more than 60 out of it. You giving it a good ragging or not?

well i cant redline it... i get it to 9000 rpm and then thats it... it will NOT go past 60 mph, 5th gear is the only way. and then in 6th, speed decreases.

Their must be a throttle restrictor things Very Happy

This is normal for a restricted NSR. You are never gonna get much pulling power in 6th you have to time it perfectly to get any speed from it in 6th taking into account the conditions ie. weather and road. You will find that you can get more than 60 out of it depending on the road and conditions. On some roads my old Honda NSR (99) would only do 60 but on others it would do 85 indicated. Once you get used to the bike and how the revs/gears work you will find you will be able to get a bit more speed from it.

Just spend a bit of time getting used to the bike before you go rushing to derestrict it.

Hope this sheds a little light

Regards Rob

one more thing you will never be able to redline a restricted NSR in 6th anyway. You can try but its not gonna happen

Just another thing to mention i weigh over 13 1/2 stone so that might be another reason mine is a little slow

Hi

Sounds like the German market SPEED restriction rather than a power restriction, although I think that actually limits them to a true 80kmh / 50mph.

All the best

Keith

Well im 11 1/2 stone but yeah, impossible to redline in 6th, i can do it in 4th though but i wont let it past 10,000 coz it will do it in.

yeah! I'll get some pics up of the exhaust etc, so we can all see.

but yeah, im ok riding at this speed, i was just wondering for the future when i want a bit more speed on a long straight.

Thanks for the replies
