Ok, Here goes hope some might have an idea of whats going wrong here, I have a new cg 125 copy eveything seems fine except...

Engine ticks over fine, take it out for a spin and get up to 4th gear engine starts to sound a bit ropey (only a tiny bit just noticeable) as soon as I start to slow down engine cuts out and if I happen to be changing down a gear at the time it lock the back wheel up!

Engine then wont start unless I put the choke on full and rev it up and down for about 30 seconds (if i dont rev it for at least 30 seconds it just dies as soon as i let go of accelerator)
While its running I quickly switch the choke fully off and the bike runs and tick over fine, I carry on on my way 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 engine starts to sound a bit funny again and as soon as I start to slow down engine cuts out and I have to repeat the above process!!

It feels and sounds to me like its blocked up some where is this possible on a new bike? The carb is brand spanking new I have taken it off and checked it looks just like new?

Any ideas whats going wrong? Please help me!!!

If it's brand new why is it not already back at the dealers?

Don't start taking things apart you may invalidate your warranty, as said above, take it back to the dealer and let them sort the problem. They know more about bikes and no doubt will suss it out in a few minutes.

Sorry I don't understand???

Did you buy it private or from a shop?

If it was from a shop they are resposible for any problems FULL STOP.

Everything comes with a 12month guarantee if purchased new.

If it was a private sale, well thats different.

Yes its new, its from a seller on ebay, but I dont want to have to take it back as they are about 200 miles away!

Theres plenty of oil in it(about 3/4) I just thought as these cg 125's are so basic I thought it would be quite simple to fix.

Regards,

Dan

Is it off Ebay?

Most of these copys go wrong and the sellers put you throught to the factory where everbody speaks chinese and things go no where fats.

And that guarantee must be provided by the people who brought it into Europe.

Personally sounds like fuel starvation. Blocked fuel tank breather or a blocked fuel filter.

All the best

The reason I asked about oil is that a lot of bikes are shipped without oil in them.

I agree with you, sounds like fuel starvation which would be somewhere between:
Tank breather, fuel filter, fuel tap, fuel line, needle valve, float height, needle position, and jet cleanliness.

When you say "CG copy" what do you mean, its not an actual Honda? Cos if its a copy ike my 125 "Hongdou", I had the same problem! Was a fucked up bike tbh, didn't like cold, and damp! I had the spark plugs changed, but it still did it from time to time, mainly after it had been sitting for a while though!

My Hongdou runs sweet as a nut. Razz

It doesn't stop bits falling off and disintegrating with alarming regularity, but it runs perfectly and has never had any engine problems at all.

They're not all bad - I still can't ride it to its limits. It is better having a nice wee light bike to learn to ride properly on anyway imo, and having more or less mastered slow control on it, by all accounts a larger bike is easier to ride.

I probably won't be much help but I had a 2 stroke chainsaw brand new and I had to run it in for a few tanks before I put it under load other wise it would cut out when I went to cut some thing maybe it will be better when it gets free and the rings bed in some more? I have never really had a go on a 2 stroke but I must admit I am feeling the urge for an RS 250 trackbike Wink good luck with it mate Thumbs Up

OK, the "is the any fuel in it" reply might not be to far away.

Last night I pulled the pipe off the carb and the fuel was only dripping out, turned it on to reserve and it was pouring out. I emptied the tank it had about 2 to 3 litres of fuel left in it.

When does the reserve normally kick in? I took the fuel switch out (and filter) cleaned it all but didnt really need it no blockages to speak of.

After I emptied and refilled the fuel, it flowed much better when set to the main tank could there of been an airlock or similar?

Could it be possible that the engine was cutting out because of no fuel? What normally happens when you run out of fuel? (ie engine noises etc?

I didnt have time to try it last night so hopefully I will know better tonight

Cheers,

For any help, and yes it is a hongdou, my opionion was if million of chinese people are riding them they cant be that bad! And the engine is about as simple as you can get so it cant be that hard to fix.

Running out of fuel, it normally splutters, misfires a bit and then just cuts out. If you've been having the trouble starting it and then it running for a short while and then it stopping from lack of fuel, you'll know what it sounds like.

My hongdou had terrible problems thats all. Must have been mine though, my aunties one runs ok. Bits falling off was the main problem Razz Plus mine would never go over 40mph Sad Which sucked compared to other 125's. Glad I got my 600 now though. Gd luck with fixing it, when my one ran out of fuel, it spluttered a bit, then cut out, and the back wheel would lock if clutch was out!

The bike doesnt seem to bad, hopefully it was an air block or something similar, I wont be sing it in the rain its only to go in to town or out for a ride in the nice weather until I am ready for a test (I have 0% confidence at the moment) As long as the basics on it are ok I will hopefully keep it and buy a hornet or similar in the winter when they seem to be a hell of a lot cheaper than in the summer!

Cheers for the help!
