As long as you mean FAST, rather than QUICK, i would say for me :
Slow - 40mph
steady - 75mph
Fast - 100mph
Maniac - 125+mph ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

I find I am one of the slower riders, but I don't care. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Good question.
My personal 'fast' is anything that pushes my comfort zone. I can't put a specific speed on it cos what's comfortable one day might feel uncomfortable on another. I've had days when 40's felt horrid, days when 140's felt like nothing.
To be honest, I don't really try and ride fast on the roads, I do enough trackdays to get all that out of my system where I can be proper fast (maybe not compared to people who are faster than me, but compared to what I could ever realistically achieve on the road). I've never really seen the attraction of riding straight into an oncoming car or wrapping myself around a lampost so have always veered towards the cautious on the roads - expecting the unexpected and all that. Likewise, I've never been one to push my comfort zone just to keep up with other people - maybe I'd be a faster rider if I had but it just ain't me. On the roads anyway.
I like to go out on a nice day, be smooth, enjoy myself and just go at whatever speed I feel like that day. |

That's one of the problems I have encountered with rideouts. Most of them seem to whizz off at 100MPH+, it's not that I can't keep up, well I can't being 33BHP, it's the fact I enjoy my scenery and if I went fast everywhere biking would quickly become boring. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. With me its not about going fast everywhere, i enjoy my cruising rides, hanging at 80mph with some long, easy turns, slightly banking over with the trees and hills just to my side etc... But i need to have those "fast" sections to keep my interest alive, if im going somewhere of any distance i will take it slow and relax, get into a rythm and stick there at 80mph etc... but if im going somewhere relatively close, for the sole purpose of getting there, then the "Fast" side will come out and i will be topping the 100 mark at every chance i can get, as i find journeys boring, when they are not the point of me getting my bike out of the garage... if you see my point? ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... All relative depends on the road.
Nice dry open A-road with some long corners would be about.
Slow - 40
Steady - 50-60
Fast 80
Maniac - 100+
I rarely go to far over speed limits, not because I cant, not because im a slow rider but because its a public road! , sometimes im sensible, sometimes im not so sensible. |

FAST is not about numbers, its about the way you use the machine in the surroundings your in.
Example...........when i'm out at work my hallway at home is free from diesel, people and sheep yet to ride down it at 10 mph would be manic.
Speed is about road surface and condition of your machine, your personal ability to handle the machine and react to change.
I could take you on a 60mph limit road which you wouldn't ride at over 30mph on and likewise a 30mph road where it should really be classed as a dual carriageway.
Fast IS about how you perceive it to be. I don't see m/way cruising at 110/120 as being fast (providing its relatively clear and free flowing) but i do see the 'SnakePass' in Derbyshire as fast over 60 mph in most parts. quite an open question really. |

We were doing 140+ for mile after mile in France on the peages....and it soon became boring.
On the twisties in the mountains I'd be suprised if anyone got over 60 for any lenght of time but that was MANIC!
When there's gravel rash on the side panniers you know you've been pushing it. ____________________ https://hyperbikes.forumsplace.com/ |
