ok, i was wondering about this quite alot lately, watching the bsb and moto gp, and wonderd if it could be done without a new set of rearsets. so i jump on to 400gb and low and behold, there is a thread about it Shocked spooky or what!!
but anyway, i find that its very easy to do on the nc, just undo a bolt, whack the link thing 180 and put it back on:)
i love it. i took to it like a duck on water with lots of swimming badges in lenghts.
it just feels more natural, dunno why tho.
anyone else ridden a race sequence before??

Sorry for sounding like a noob, but whats a race sequence?
Is it like a different size / shape lever making it easier to connect with or a shorter length for travel so its just a quick little tap and its up? or is it something a bit more technical or Confused Embarassed

It's funny letting people ride your bike when its like that. Just be careful not to accidently change down a gear instead of up when going for it. Thumbs Up

It means the gear are the other way round on the lever i.e one up 5 down istead of one down 5 up.

Ok i get you now! Laughing Cheers Thumbs Up

Personally i would find that pretty awquard, i had a grasstrack bike that had that type of gear system, and it was very confusing. Out of habbit i would be kicking up, only to find me almost over the bars due to engine braking Laughing

The reasoning behind it is that when you're in a tight left turn, you can still change up through the gears, without needing your foot under the lever (which would prevent you leaning the bike over so far).

TBH, you're never going to need this on the road. Unless you're a lunatic.

Does sound interesting, changing shift patterns is easy tho, for the first few rides you just got to remember how the gears work, i ride a bike for normal gears, then wrong foot and unside down then wrong side and hand gear change!

Three bikes:
Old Honda - What you would consider a normal gear box, left hand side, 1 down 4 up.

Norton ES2- Right hand side, 1 up 3 down.

BSA Roundtank- Right hand side hand change.

I used to want to do it on the NSR. Seemed more natural to press down to go up a gear and pull it up to go down one. Confused

Infact I think I did do it once or twice Embarassed

I've done it, but then took a pillion and forgot... interesting Rolling Eyes You can only do it on bikes with a shift arm type linkage ie where a linkage arm is mounted to the footpeg and the gearbox. If you have a lever coming towards the peg, but not actually connecting with it, then you can't do it. That doesn't make sense, but nevermind Razz

Might change mine for the Nurburgring...

well in the long run, im gonna make my nc into a just barely road legal track bike, and its useful for the track.

and on the nc, its so easy, that i can change it back if i feel the need. only takes like 10 mins, so no problem there

I doubt it to be honest.

It's useful if you're a very, very fast racer or are already used to bikes that have it as standard.

Otherwise I suspect it will get in the way.

A couple of times I have had a bike nocked down a gear on track - with a big rear end slide the results.
Doing it at redline while leant over could get very nasty and the resulting injuries and damge to the bike would make you slower on track in the long run I suspect.

Also will cause problems when you get on someone elses bike I suspect.

I had a 350LC which had down for up and up for down gear sequence it was fine to start with when i was thinking about it or out for fast rides. However it soon became a right pain as i'd forget, go to change down usually in traffic and end up red lining the poor thing.
Besides not all racers use this even at the top level of racing, the only time it helps is changing up when leant over. How many people here on trackdays have ever wished for a reversed sequence i certainly haven't,so whats the point?

well screw you guys, i prefer it.
besides its cool to say you have it done:)

duno, i red that it was easy so i thought i would try, and took to it really easy, and it only takes like 10 mins to do on the nc, so if i get in trouble and do normal shifting, then ill think that in those situations i would do the same, so ill just change it back

i do need some rear sets though, as i almost ablitirated my hero blob on the right side Embarassed Laughing
taken both sides off now
and i need leathers

Erm, I believe people were giving you advice to try and prevent you breaking your bike and yourself Neutral.

As people get annoyed with me pointing out, just because you think it's cool, don't expect others to Very Happy.
