While riding home from college yesterday I found myself following a gsxr 1100 or something like that, anyway, the reg plate had been cut down.

It was a normal sized plate but the edges had been cut close to the letters and numbers so that there was no border or anything.

I was wondering if this was legal as the actual letters and numbers were the right size just that there was no border. Does the plate as a whole have to be a certain size or is it only the numbers and letters that have a minimum size?

Thanks

Rob

Not sure to be honest as the law only states the size of the letters and not the size of the plate itself. Well the DVLA does anyway.

My plate has been cut down in order to accomodate my Givi Carrier. It was done by the dealer so I presume it's legal.

If it breaks the law it breaks the law, doesn't matter if the queen cut your plate down.

I have my standard plate cut down. You can lose an inch in both height and length. Never been pulled just for the plate and its never been questioned when I have been stopped.

Not being pulled/questioned over it, doesn't make it legal.

Most of the time you'll be fine with a small plate, as long as it's not blatently taking the piss.

It's only a £30 fine anyway, have you paid your number plate tax this week? Twisted Evil

So there's no points for an illegal plate then?

(still restricted to 6 points so I don't want to cut mine down then be halfway to losing my license after being pulled once Sad )
