I often find riding whilst being sad, depressed and mostly down. Is the best way for me to get my mind off of things that are at an issue im my life (riding gets rid of them types of feelings).
Cheer up

Exactly what i was thinking yesterday.
Although i was doing about 50mph on a roundabout with my g/f on the back, so it probably wasnt such a good thing to be thinking after all... ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

I'm glad I'm not in the office today - it would be very gloomy....no the real reason why you are depressed is that you know you are going to be missing the best party night in the West End for 20 years on Saturday!! ____________________ Using a mobile phone while driving a car should be made a capital offence! |

Around Christmas time at uni, when I was seriously snowed under with work (mainly the MIRA testing week if anyone remembers me posting about that) and seriously paranoid about failing university, dropping out and letting people down, I almost couldn't go on a ride without thinking about what will happen if I just don't bother cornering. It was a very bad condition to be in.
Overworked, overstressed, staring failure in the face (or certainly the paranoia about it), crappy weather, slimey roads, hardly even seeing the sun for being stuck in computer labs for 14 hours a day, probably my worst time at uni. Riding never helped. Time is the only true healer for most things, even if it doesn't get better, you'll learn to cope with it. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Ive been through that particular grinder too mate.
Thats the way it works, your with a girl and you think its wonderful. You split up and think you will never find anyone like that again. Then you find someone who is so much better that you forget ll about the first one. You split up and then find another one thats EVEN better and this goes on and on until one day you finally think 'How much bigger can these girls breasts get?'
Anyway, some of you will know that a woman knocked me and my bike over and is now lying about it. Im fed up, its hanging over me like a cloud. If she wins then my biking career is over, Im aiming for bigger things and the insurance will cripple me. Ridng home today, in the rain, was awful. The hire bike has shit tyres and slides everywhere on roundabouts. I miss my CBR, and Ive got to wait weeks for it to get sorted out. Im starting to fall out with myself and biking. Im losing my passion for the only thing thats made me happy for the last year, even when im on the bike Im fed up now, all because of one bitch.
Hopefully in a month or two it will be sorted and I will win the case. Thens its a Mille for villers, and a year to wait for an injury claim.
anyway thanks for listening. ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Ive always found my bike to be a release from anything in my life. If im feeling down, angry, or hungover . Going out for quick blast along the roads sorts things out. ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,

I must admit the only way i could see me committing suicide is 'running wide on a left' repeatedly at very very high speeds until something was in the way.
To be honest thought it would take alot to get to that stage, but when im arsed off i will go from A - B as fast as humanely possible, proper road racing agressive driving. Never good. Hasnt happened on the cbr properly yet, i dont want it to tbh. I used to be amazingly dangerous just on the 50, 125 or 350 when i got in that mood. 100 bhp ... not so good.
That said, being in that state and listening to heavy heavy rock probably exascerbates it, so id avoid that too.
Rides like that i wish i had a tank cam
Edit: @ Marjay,
Good thinking batman
Yeh when depressed, a nice quiet cruise always perks me up. But i still find i get very volatile. With me depression leads to anger very very quickly, must be the irish in me or summit. I tend to wallow aswell, infact im in a very wallowy mood today and compared to my usual riding i was 100 times more sedate. just kept with traffic, barely overtook and was happy to just lollop along in the middle lane of the m'way at 80 odd.
Anyone else become uber polite when a bit depressed? Let ALL the cars past, nicely courteous, make sure NO ONE gets upset by your behaviour (foot high clutch up... with a car a mile down the road on the incoming carraigeway... not for me! etc)
I find having music of an emo/cheesy disposition to croon along with usually helps too. Just try to carry on caring, im sure weve all at some point dabbled in some depressed risk taking/truck headlight staring etc. I dont know if i speak for all, but usually you subconsciously save yourself. What would worry me is being abit hacked off about a girl (as i am now aswell), binning your bike into something in a pissy whinge, and losing the only thing cheering you up. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I would say that there appears to be some confusion here between depression and anger.
I for one have ridden when feeling in the depths of despair and incandescent with rage.
The rage was definitely bad for my health.
When I'm feeling really low, if the weather is good (sometimes when it isn't actually) I don't think I've ever been for a ride that has failed to make me feel better...
Don't ride when angry IMO. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

Biking always seems to cheer me up when im down, but i find riding when you are angry or frustrated a really bad plan unless you can safely ride like a lunatic (i.e. empty roads, national limits etc.).
I went out the other day on the bike feeling really frustrated. I really felt i needed that release you get from just opening the bike up and letting it howl.
But i went out at 6pm during rush hour, with endless traffic in both directions, tractors, coaches and lorries blocking all the filtering possibilities etc etc. I got so frustrated i ended up just riding like a complete gimp, stupid overtakes, flagrant speeding etc. In the end i just went home before i got myself killed.
3 hours later the roads were calm, i went out and concentrated my riding on smoothness and perfect positioning, and the whole experience was deeply relaxing.
