It seems to me when browsing the forums that more often then not people have had their bikes stolen at least once.

Since i live here down in sunny Cornwall i dont have a problem with this but i amshocked to see the large % of u that have had a bike stolen.

I had my DT stolen whilst I was getting money from a cash point!! Bastards. The insurance payout did pay for my full license and first big bike so that was a bonus!

I also, like Robbie, got mine back within 2 hours of it being stolen. Was my Honda 50, stolen on bonfire night from right outside my house. Some tw@t forgot to put the steering lock on. .

As soon as I noticed it had gone, me and my dad jumped into the car and drove to the most likely place it could have been taken - the local council estate of course. After about 20 mins of searching, we see these 2 kids on a motorbike, looked just like mine, then they drove right past us, wearing no helmet etc, so we chased them down til they dropped it and ran. Rode it back to my house, got pulled over by the police for so called speeding (45 in a 30?!), no lights (rear was smashed) and suspicious behaviour. But none of that mattered when I had told them I was recovering my stolen bike. What a night that was. Since then I chain my bike up and ALWAYS use the steering lock. Lesson learned.

Yep, my GSXR-600 disappeared late last year: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=34142. Didn't get it back, but the insurance paid up eventually (mostly). Out of maybe 20 bikes that I've owned previously this is the first one to be stolen, so unless you've got an expensive steal-to-order sports bike (this was my problem) or an obviously nickable moped (kids just want to have fun - bastards!), I wouldn't let it keep you awake at night, just use a big chain.

I have had one unsuccessful attempt on a Yamaha SRX-6, in the centre of Glasgow. I had an incredibly weedy chain wrapped around the back wheel and shock, and despite (apparently) using a crow bar against the shock they didn't manage to break the chain. Unfortunately, this left one shock absorber looking like a banana, so for future reference I wouldn't recommend riding 150 miles to get home with one side of your suspension disconnected... Bouncy!

This leaves me with one theft, one attempted theft and about 15 bikes that were never touched, in about 10 years. Your mileage may vary!

Yep. My dads kawasaki triple will be sat in an unlocked shed with the key in the ignition as we speak, just like it has been for the last five years.

Total thefts to-date.

1) Jawa 350 stolen whilst chained to a lamppost outside St. Leonards police station in Edinburgh. Recovered but with cosmetic damage.

2) Honda PC50 moped stolen from a locked and patrolled yard in Edinburgh, chained to a stanchion. Recovered with damage but fixable. Two kids stopped on it by the police, sent on their way without even taking names

3) Honda PC50 moped stolen from mates front garden in Edinburgh, chained to metal railings. Never recovered.

4) Attempted theft of various parts of the Jawa (wheels, clocks etc. as they couldn't get through the uber chain) from the same locked yard as above. Seen on CCTV by the security guard this time. Two arrested with the bits in their hands then let go again.

5) CB125TDC stolen from locked back yard in Cumbria two days after post-rebuild MOT. Recovered but ratty as hell. Three arrested, one convicted. 3 months in borstel

6) Honda C90 rolling chassis stolen from front of house in Cumbria. No security as who would steal a bike with no engine in it? Found 200yds away burnt out. Police tried to charge me 240 quid for them carting it to a yard 30 miles away. Told them where to get-off, it's bad enough being a victim of both theft and criminal damage without the police trying to extort money out of me too. Sent letter to MP saying so.

7) MZ baghira stolen from front yard in Cumbria. Chained down to ground anchor with uber chain and immobalised. Specialist cutting tools used. Recovered 10 miles away unstarted but with ignition screwdrivered.

8) MZ baghira stolen again, same as above. Security lighting just fitted, CCTV camera (broken) fitted with signs up. Recovered three days later after serious ragging and two petrol station "drive offs". Still arguing with insurance. One arrested, due in court later this year

Not buying another nice bike until I am allowed by law to shoot people I catch trying to steal my stuff or wire the bikes up to high voltage/anti-personel mines. Sticking with ratty bikes I can afford to loose from now-on.

Its nice to know that the police are as helpful as ever, serving the public as well as they do, oops wait, I think im deluding myself lol. Police are the same here in N.Ireland, if you're speeding, or have a small plate, your done for, 20 years, no parole. Mugging an OAP, setting her on fire and using her to burn down an orphanage, and you'll get off with a warning! lol

Had a J - reg 1972 bogger 90 nicked out of me garage when i was 16. Had FSH as it had been in the family since new.

Bloody thing didn't even work when it got knicked

01 R6 padlocked, stolen but recovered in Central London - the police caught them in the act, cosmetic damage when they dropped it.

03 R6 Locked chain and U lock, front and back stolen from bike bay in Covent Garden, Central London between 9am and 6pm in broad daylight. Never seen again.

If you don't buy a 600 sportsbike, always use a good lock and fasten it to something like a lampost then chances are you will be safe.

I've not had one stolen yet (touch wood) but some one tried to nick my 2000 NSR125rr from outside of my work a few years back.

When i got back to it the were scrape marks all round the disk lock and it had been thrown on the floor. They couldnt nick the bike so the threw it down instead. And it had probably been there a few hours, on a main road and nobody had thought about picking it up. grrrr.

Had my NSR stolen from my old work place, cops found it again 1 hour later, de-barrelled.. had to hotwire it to ride it every time... now who looks like the suspect? lol!

1988 TS50X, my first bike, second week of ownership.
I put the steering lock on in the car park, ran over to Clintons to get my mum a mothers day card, took me about 8 minutes. Got back and wondered if I was loosing it, “Where’s that gone then??”
A gut wrenching feeling.

1986 TS125X, park it down the alley of my ex GF’s house (private road), went inside to pick something up, ended up talking to her mum for ages, came outside, gone.

2004 DTR125R, Locked, 3 padlocks and chain on the bike. Went into town, came back, gate open no bike.

left my AR125 unlocked ONE night as i was staying up and going to college early in the morning..

got all my gear on, trousers, jackets, helmet, gloves, rucksack etc.. walked outside "eh, where's my bike", checked round theh back incase my dad had played the joker but wasn't to be found..

must have looked a right idiot.. anyway got it back in several (broken) peices, dirty pikey scum, maybe i should steal one of them from their "lockup" and break them into several broken peices

My first bike, which was Andy's before mine, was stolen from our back garden + it was heartbreaking.
It was an RD125LC and we'd spent weeks working on it as the head gasket was leaking so we'd go the head skimmed and it was just sorted out (wheelied in 3rd - hee hee!) when some lowlife stole it

yeah i had my bike stolen went to choices to drop dvd off came back put bike in back garden(missus) and within 5 mins of being in her house bike was stolen neighbours told me and i went after them with a baseball bat lol got it back but was fucked though.
