Anybody know if a decent company does this in the Birmingham area? Need to change my back tyre pretty fast, I know of a car tyre place that will actually put the tyre on the rim for me. But, its about 10 miles away... dont fancy walking or taking tyre + rim on the bus with me.

Anyone know of a firm that offers road side changing?

I presume it is for a 125?

Why not do it yourself. Sounds like you already have the bare rim and the tyre yeah? The hard bit is getting the old tyre off, the new one should waltz-on with little effort.

You should be able to 'walk' the tyre on with plenty of soapy water. Just position the tyre ove the rim, soap-up the bead and push one edge down over the rim. Push the bead down into the recess in the middle of the wheel then start pushing the tyre all the way onto the rim working one side then the other. A lot of 125 tyres will push-on by hand, if not, stand on the bead with one foot either side and gradually push the bead over the rim with your weight. You might need a tyre lever to get the last couple of inches over.

If it is a tubed tyre, put the partially inflated tube in now then walk the other bead down in the same way. If it is tubeless, just put the other bead on.

Now inflate the tyre with the valve core removed to seat the beads on the rim, you will hear them 'bang' as this happens (you sometimes have to take a tubeless tyre up to maybe 80psi or so).

The things to remember are:

Use plenty of slippy stuff (such as soapy water) to allow the bead to slip over the rim.

Push the part of the bead that is already 'fitted' down into the middle of the wheel to give yourself more space for fitting the rest of it.

If you use a tyre-iron, be careful not to pinch the tube with it (if fitted).

The last tyre I fitted to a 125, I managed to push it down over the rim by hand. Even the 160 section tyre on my supermoto went on with little effort (took an hour to get the old one off though)

Its a job Id rather have done properly, mines a 130 section tyre, if it was smaller I would definately do it myself.

Taking it to a local place to get it done, Black Country Motorcycle Training. They're brilliant, really are, local Black country blokes (read: Black Countray blókes Wink).

Shouldnt cost me much either. Smile

Never had any problems with them, never been on their bike, I wouldnt have bought a bike at all if I wasnt going to ride it.

They WONT rip me off, as Ill ask them how much before they actuall lay a hand on my bike. If its more than reasonable (say £20 for fitting) Ill walk away, with a tyre over my head and around my sholder. And find someone else to fit it for me.

PS: Where abouts in the black countray are you mate?

FYI most tyre/bike places around here charge £5 to £10 for fitting and that's to a rolling bike (so have to remove/fit wheel), usually free if you buy the tyre from them and take the wheel. So £20 for fitting a tyre would, IMO, be a tad high Confused

Good job it only cost me a £10er then. Including chain and break adjustments (hard NOT to adjust when doing that job, though, really!).

Mind you it was definately service with a frown, wench musta been on, thats BCMT for you though.

Won't you need your own compressor to inflate it quickly enough to get the beads to pop on properly? That is if you don't do it with a can of lighter fuel or something.

Cant use pertrol station air pumps to do mine, the hub on the wheel is quite large, so I cant get the metal bit of the hose into the space between the rim and the hub.
Never mind though, its done now Smile

For future reference it might be worth investing in a 90 degree tyre valve adaptor for just this occurance.
Would also let you top up your tyres at a petrol station if required when travelling.
Cost about £2.50 (image is from https://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/ - search for tyre adaptor)
