Dont mean jack all realy mate. Doesnt take any mistake on your part for an idiot in a metro or land-rover to reverse blindly out in front of you.

Quite possibly, especialy if its a large accident / a large payout. Insurance companies will do almost anything they can to avoid a large payout... and also if you dont have the restrictors in, then you are voiding your insurance... but you are still paying for it, and if something was to come up, then you would be paying your anual / monthly premiums for nothing. Riding without the restrictors, IMO, is effectively voiding your insurance, therefore you are riding with no insurance, and paying for it at the same time. May aswell not be insured. That way you can save more than the £200 you would save, to void your insurance anyway ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

For what it's worth, I asked my Dad (who's an insurance broker) about what'd happen, and he said the most he's known, is a bad accident, and the guys GSX-R wasn't restricted, but it was fully comp, the insurance paid out 3rd party costs only. Other than that he's not known any others. I wouldn't like to risk it myself, but then, I'm more concerned about 3rd party payments than my own. (3rd party, espically if someone's hurt badly can potenially run into millions) ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Never had them for the 2 years of restriction, never got nicked.
I reckon not being restricted is a safety aid as you're more paranoid of coppers and thus ride more carefully i.e. - if you have a fault accident theres a small slight chance you could get majorly fucked. |

I was stopped by a bike cop when I was 17 and on a ZX6R.
He thought that it was the largest I could ride until I was 21, there was no mention of 33bhp.
You can probably get away with having a restrictor kit, buy it if you want it incase you ever need it. Hopefully just for peace of mind, but if you need to make your bike be restricted or show the certificate if ever asked then you can. |
