worth restricting????

is it worth even bothering restricting my cb500?? my local dealer is charging 200 quid and they are even going to tell me then how to take it straight out!!!!!! just fort he certificate, my insurance compoany havnt asked for it either. so has anyone else just ridden a bike without any proof of restriction????

If I were you I'd restrict it. As if this is you first bike, your probably more likely crash it. If you crash and the insurance company find out it wasn't restricted then you could get right royally shafted!

well ive been riding for 2 yearson 4 different bikes, never caused an accident and am a sensible rider. if i dont crash doing something stupid will insurance ask for preof of restriction???

For what it's worth, I asked my Dad (who's an insurance broker) about what'd happen, and he said the most he's known, is a bad accident, and the guys GSX-R wasn't restricted, but it was fully comp, the insurance paid out 3rd party costs only. Other than that he's not known any others. I wouldn't like to risk it myself, but then, I'm more concerned about 3rd party payments than my own. (3rd party, espically if someone's hurt badly can potenially run into millions)

Never had them for the 2 years of restriction, never got nicked.

I reckon not being restricted is a safety aid as you're more paranoid of coppers and thus ride more carefully i.e. - if you have a fault accident theres a small slight chance you could get majorly fucked.

It would be handy just to have the restrictors.

In a worst case scenario you will be right royaly fucked with no restrictors.

However if the chance was there for you to get your bike towed back to your house/garrige of choice it might just safe a lot of hassle.

I've constantly been searching google news every week for stuff on 33bhp and the only thing which appeard was a month back about a cop in n. irleand killinghimself on a bike which should of been 33bhp. Just because I've not found much though doesn't mean theres no one being nicked for having a bike 33bhp.

you'd have to be involved in a serious accident to get your bike that closely examined to find restrictors. So if someone pulls out on you and its their fault i wouldnt worry. The easiest way is not to say anything. Worked for me. Just dont get nicked doing 110 up the motorways as that will get you in the crap.

Restrict it at first at least, to get used to the power and handling.

A friend of mine owns a bike garage so he just signed the paper work and handed me the restrictors and said its up to you if you fit them.

I didnt have a problem going straight to full power but i have the restriction certificate and the restrictors to bung straight in if i do have an accident. Its worth having the certificate even if you just get a routine stop check as they will more than likely ask for proof of restriction. If you have got the certificate they wont take it any further but if you dont then your riding out of your license and will be royaly boned!

Get it restricted even if you take them out you always have them there as a safety net!

I was stopped by a bike cop when I was 17 and on a ZX6R.

He thought that it was the largest I could ride until I was 21, there was no mention of 33bhp.

You can probably get away with having a restrictor kit, buy it if you want it incase you ever need it. Hopefully just for peace of mind, but if you need to make your bike be restricted or show the certificate if ever asked then you can.
