dam need a little help

my starter motor relay has die. all it does is click and does not let out power to the starter motor.

anyone know where i can buy a relay from and if so how much?

Clicking starter relay is usually a sign of a low battery

How do you know the battery is fine? A battery can appear to function fine and in fact not have enough power to turn over the engine.

As a basic rule, it takes a lot of current to crank an engine, and very little current to light a headlight.

Try hooking up a known working battery - like a car battery - first.

I keep just such a battery to hand for such things.

Also check nothing in the wiring is loose, and that the relay isnt full of water or dirty etc

I completely agree with previous posts.

Happened on my mum's XJ900, clicking starter motor was a knackered battery.

Try leaving the headlight on and thumbing the starter, if the headlight dims fairly majorly then it's fairly likely to be a duff battery.

Although obviously that's not a foolproof testing method.

i brought a new battery and there is no power coming out of the relay what so ever

and the relay clicks even if the starter motor is not connected to the relay

sounds like faulty wiring. Get your probe out.....

there is power going into the relay but non coming out of the relay surely it has to be the relay?the lights dont even dim when i press the start button.

There are 2 power leading running into the relay and 2 which are connected to the starter motor its self.

i have tested that there is power going into the relay and i tested if there was power coming out of the relay which it is not.

how can the wiring stop the power coming out of the relay????

Just to make sure, can you check if there is power getting to the starter motor? Make sure you press the starter button when you check it.

If there IS power getting to the starter then I expect it will be dodgy brushes.

ok found out what the problem was. One of my bushes and its spring got crushed by the motor. I used my mates bushes and spring out of his starter motor and it worked fine.

my new question is, i know i can order new bushes but can i order new springs??????????
