Three weeks ago I had to replace my rear tyre as it had a nail sticking out of it. Two weeks later (last Thursday) I park up and find a nail in the new tyre, I take it to FWR and they are able to plug it (£20). Yesterday I find another nail sticking out of the tyre!
I took it to FWR on the way home and the boss man did the repair himself as everyone else was busy. He was a bit reluctant as he said it was too close to the edge, I pointed out that it was nearer the middle than the other repair they had already done. Got the repair done (another £20), I would have rather not, but with only about 500 miles on the tyre I didn't really want to replace it. I started to drive home but after about 5 miles the bike started feeling weird, I stopped and looked but couldn't see anything wrong and carried on very carefully. 10 miles later it was getting worse and worse, bloody tyre was almost flat. I limped to a garage filled the tyre up, got home and in half an hour it was flat as a pancake. Filled it up and checked it over but I couldn't find a leak, but it was flat again about an hour later.
This morning I took a footpump with me and stopped every 10 miles to top it up. When I got back to FWR the manager was a bit defensive and started telling me he never thought it was a good idea to repair it in the first place but finally agreed to knock £20 off the cost of fitting a new tyre. I was asked to sit in the waiting room and he came in 5 mins later and said they had found another hole in the tyre, hmmm nothing to do with a bad repair then?
So I've decided that this tyre must be cursed - after all it was a Diablo!
I hope I have better luck with the new one ____________________ The older I get the better I was |

Don't worry. When I used to commute to work on the bike I'd usually have at least 3 nails in the back tyre. I'm sure they are put there deliberately!
I ended up putting 'Slime' in the rear just to stop and slow punctures. Never went above 50 anway so I left most nails in there! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

I had 3 punctures in one day - 2 in the back on the way to work, 1 in the front on the way from work...roundabouts were NOT fun...
I had the 2 rear punctures plugged while at work, and just had both the tyres replace the next day after getting the front puncture as I figured these tyres were, in fact, cursed...

Maybe you ought to fit an inner tube? At least that is easy to repair.
People will throw their hands up and say you shouldn't but I have used and abused numerous tubless fitment sports tyres on my supermoto before now with no ill effects. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Hi
Cannot remember whether it was Ultraseal or one of the others that Col had, but it was bright pink (and Slime is green I think) so quite likely it was Ultraseal. Worked OK until he went a bit quick when it peed out and covered the rear suspension. Not a problem on a short speed run, but having slippery stuff on a deflating wheel at speed is not a good idea.
Also not a good idea to have stuff in there which will hide puncture which would otherwise indicate damage to something like the side walls of the tyres.
Also, do you really want to add over half a kilo of unsprung weight to the bike?
Personally I really do not think a liquid good that sets to a certain level will really provide a plug that is anything like as effective as a proper repair to a tyre.
Yes I do think the stuff can be useful, but not prepared to use it on anything that will be used at a sustained high speed. Maybe something used for green laning.
All the best

Seems to answer most of your questions Keith.
As for the unsprung weight. I did 3000 miles around France and often at speeds well in excess of 150 mph. with no vibes or handling probs even on the crazy mountain hairpins where even the panniers were touching down ____________________ https://hyperbikes.forumsplace.com/ |

Hi
Afraid that there advertising claims do not answer any of my questions (and the Slime that you say is different is also claimed to be tested at 150mph). Some of those claims strike me as being major bull, such as "improves handling" (no, extra unsprung weight will make the suspension have a harder time).
As to having a front wheel blow out, my whole feeling is that I would rather know about the air leak at low speed, rather than waiting to find the effect at high speed.
All the best

For some reason punctures seem to come in groups.
I had a puncture, had a new tyre fitted, and a week later had another nail sticking in the new tyre.
So annoying. ____________________ <Simple> no I'm shaven Jon
