Knee down on a roundabout Wednesday night, back end slid out according to spectating mate. I wasn't really sure what happened as it was over before I realised it was happening.

I'm just stiff and aching, with a few bruises appearing, leathers and bike aren't so lucky...

Last time I had an off, the bike slid over a kerb. If I'd had crash bungs on, I'm sure they would have done more harm than good. This time however, they would have saved it. IMO, they're far from an exact science. Circumstances of the crash VERY much determine whether they'll half the damage, or double it.

Despite two lowside in 8 months, I'm still not convinced about them. If the bike slid over a kerb, they could knacker the frame and then I'd be looking at a write off.

Probably between 40 and 45mph. Leathers were already scuffed from a previous encounter with the tarmac, so this one finished the job. Guess I'm either looking at a repair bill for them, or a new suit...

Nah mate, just comes down to what you make out of bikes. I find what they look like doesn't matter an iota.

It's all poseability after all....isn't it?

Wink

I do agree though, it did look great and still does. You're not going to replace the exhaust are you? Only scratches on it I can see are on the bracket....

No mate, gonna try and get the scratches on the bracket polished out. It is still rideable, as I rode it home afterwards. As far as I can tell at the moment, it just needs new brake levers (front and back), a new mirror ('cos I hated riding it without one!), new fairing fixings and perhaps a coolant top up, although most of that stayed where it was!

I see your point about leaving it as is, but I was so pleased with it after I'd sorted everything out, I'd like it like that again. If I did leave it as it is, another low side would mean the engine casing would wear through and leave oil all over the road, which I wouldn't be too happy with. So the least I'm going to do is replace the cover or armour, whichever is easiest.

I guess that's the downside to having such a gorgeous bike. It's gonna sting if you bin it. Confused

Good luck sorting it all back to previous shinyness though, looks like you were lucky with the exhaust bracket taking a lot of the damage.

What tyres were you using?
I did a similar thing on one of them, luckily it was Honda's bike and my company paid the excess Smile. Looks like you were going a bit faster than me.

First thing I thought when I saw the first pic was 'dodgy leathers' - then I noticed you had similar Dianese ones to the ones I have.
Dianese seem to be 'one crash' leathers - unfortunately after I bought mine I found out that places like crowtree cost about the same for made to measure as off the shelf big name brands like Dianese, but last a lot longer.

They've stood up to two low sides now and wore through on the second one. Have to say I've been very impressed with them.

Were you going progressively faster; I did you suddenly just go fast, or was this the same sorta speed you'd been going before.
Also, did you get any signs before you crashed, for example little slides from the rear or the bike suddenly 'twitching' inwards, like the front end suddenly dippid towards the middle of the roundabout?

Was on 014s that I crashed and I've been trying to work out why.

I've crashed in my 'just bikers' (custom made, just not for me Confused )leathers loads of times - some sliding at high-ish speed (from about 80 or a bit more maybe) on track and they have been fine.
I would be and was pretty disapointed when that sort of damage appeared on my Dianese after not that much crashing.

Omg you dropped that bad boy already?!?
Just after you got it finished aswell, that sucks, I hope the same doesnt happen to me, but luckily mines only stickers and far easier to fix(stickers wise) if I drop it.

If you back off suddenly the front tyre which is already working hard can be overloaded and lose grip, did you do that?

Nope, back wheel slid. Power was constant. Only thing I can think of is I leant past the edge of the tyre...
