Posted: 21:45 - 11 Jul 2005 Post subject: Reasons Why Getting A Bike Is Safe |
 |
|
This is a request. After my accident most people tell me to get a car- no- i hate cars. My sister saw my accident and i was told to 'think of her' when she sees my new bike sitting outside. Also i was told about the 'stress' that everyone had been through when i was in hospital. Ok fair enough- everyones helped me out no end, but i need some convincing arguments why getting a bike is better than a car.
The few i thought of were:
1. Cheaper to run.
2. London Traffic will be easier to get through
3. I cant drive.....................
I need some more convincing arguments please guys! |

Getting a bike might statistically make you more likely to be dead on the outside but getting a car bloody definitely would be likely to make you dead on the inside.
Tell them it's something you're passionate about and that it makes you happy. Say you're sorry if it bothers them but you don't want to lose out on that.

Okay, I could probably list some ideas, but I really don't think thats the right way to 'win' this 'debate'.
The pro's and con's of bikes aren't going to affect your family's feeling of you being on a bike. If it saves you time, thats hardly going to win you any favours when your mother replies with "Whats an extra 5 minutes son when you could be knocked off and killed and leave me "sonless" ". Or whatever that word may be.
Biking. It's obviously in your blood, it's what makes you happy and conveniently, it also gives you advantages too (introduce your list). It's what makes you happy mate, they won't want to respect that but it's something they have to deal with.
I have to say, I hope I am never placed in your situation. My parents know fine well I go on bikes because it's my life but they still wouldn't understand if I crashed and wanted to get back on again.
You're fighting a losing battle. Just respect their wishes, hear them out and then jsut say "I don't want to upset you but...blah blah blah". I'm not going to write it out for you, but it should all be 'in' there. No doubt this crash ahs brought you all closer, feelings strengthened, so time to say what you feel. |

Whether you are in a car or on a bike, you're not safe. When you get out of the bath, you are not safe. When you cook, you are not safe. When you sleep, you are not safe. When you walk down the stairs, you are not safe. When you eat, you are not safe. When you put on your trousers, you are not safe.
Nothing is safe. Life itself is an uncurable terminal illness. Sitting around in fear of life itself is no way to carry on. It's best to get the most out of life while you still have it. Tomorrow is an unknown, we could all be dead by then.
All you can do is try and protect yourself the best you can. Take fewer, lesser risks, and take extra care. Even taking as much care as you can, you or they could still die tomorrow. No matter how the person died, their family would feel similarly.
I should also like to point out that cars are very unsafe. Sure they have better protection against accidents nowadays, but they are still death boxes on wheels.
You want to know the most dangerous place to be? In bed. More people die there than anywhere else. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

That sums up the whole arguement in two paragraphs!
enjoy each moment this beautiful short unpridictable thing we call life gives us!
