You moan about insurance on an ER-5, then go onto say you were going to buy a Gixxer 6? Laughing

You on something?

Anyway, fact's straight:

Arrow You're gonna get screwed on insurance what ever bike at your age

Arrow You need a bike that is commuter-friendly

Arrow Got to be over 400 (Fcuk know why Rolling Eyes )

So, I'd say you'd be better off looking at a Hornet/Fazer/SV650/Bandit type thing.

Reasons:

Arrow All should be easy to fix should you bin it

Arrow All have more than enough power for your age/experience

Arrow Good fuel economy for commuting

Arrow Upright riding style - good for commuting

Arrow All still provide plenty fun at the weekend

Arrow Insurable!!!

Hope this helps. It's just my opinions of course, and it's how I would look at it.

I have an ER-5 currently, which was only used for commuting really. Now it's for sale and I'm looking for a sports 400 for fun Thumbs Up

Ignore the ones telling you they got bored on a 400. A good rider on a 400 will leave your average 600 rider for dead.
Get a good sports 400, Put a top box on it, got to a few track days....Sorted. Thumbs Up

I would say get an ER-5 for short term and ring around insurance companies.

It only cost me £250 to insure mine.

Then 6 months later sell it on and get something more interesting.

A 400 is far more capable than you are at this point. Their hard work to ride compared to larger cc bikes (750 etc). But it will scare the shit out of you when you want it to. Also they're for forgiving than 600 +. 400 is plenty of power for the road regardless of riding style.

(Although I'm going to get a larger cc (600 or 750) next year as I'm geting lazy. Mr. Green )

Aren't sports 400's faster than ER-5's anyway? You're saying your mates say you'll get bored with a 400 - you will certainly get bored with an ER-5. I did my DAS course/test on one - not the most fun bike in the world. As AcIdBuRnZ said, go with a "Hornet/Fazer/SV650/Bandit type thing".

I'd say a Fazer 600, plenty of go, nice riding position, handles well and practical.

Much better for you to learn the ropes with big bikes then getting on a race rep.

prefered the 400's for of a laugh and less chance of u wanting to fly down the road.

get a 400 ull love it to bit's can keep up with nebike on normal road's motorway well they will leave u behind after 100-115 mph. but really how often will u do that speed.

I would still go with one of the 500 twins or perhaps something like a CB400/4. Both are plenty fast enough to get you in trouble. Doesn't get round the issue of insurance though.

Other than that you are probably looking at an older 250 4-stroke hack.

Oh, and I did suggest the GPX250 before which are honestly alright bikes if you are short on funds.

You have to be realistic about these things, You can't always afford the bike that is right for you. Not even me or I would be riding about on a BMW 1200GS Smile

Whilst a sports 400 might be what you want just now, you might have to settle for something a bit slower/cheaper to insure until you are older and have more no-claims.

There is no shame in riding an old 250 or 400 superdream at some point in your biking career. It is virtually a rite of passage and with less than 12 months experience of riding on the road you had better not even THINK about telling me you could ride the wheels off one Wink Fast is more about the rider than the bike.

Hi

Expect to pay a hell of a lot more to insure a GSXR600 than the ER5. Keep trying for the insurance on something like an ER5 (which should cost less than the RGV to insure).

All the best

I used to despatch a vfr400rr around London and Uk circuits- was fab.

A 400 sports is comfy, cheap to tax and insure, Honda ones are bulletproof, plenty of them around. So they are roughly half the hp of a modern 600.. so what, they are lighter, and will see off anything in the twisties.

If you like sports bikes get either a vfr400rr or rvf400rr (vfr is slightly quicker, rvf slightly better handling.

or consider suzuki's sv650s, but do not expect that to perform as well on spirited sports riding.

VFR is 170kg dry weight
2005 model Gixxer 750 is 163kg

I wouldn't say the old 400's are light Confused Not heavy either, but are certainly on par with the latest sports bike offerings.

To be honest, a 400 is capable of more than most riders, even with a lot of experience! I've seen people race them, and do the same times as people on the 600s!

(And I'm not just biased because I've got one!)

No it was because of detective work on my behalf.

I found out that "xios" was the deceased "Sissy/Illuzion/NeoLuke" as I had a slight suspicion it was him, Neoluke's website was "www.neoXIOS.com".

Also "xios" is the admin of bik3r.com the site of which he set up after he was banned for the 3rd/4th time.

After a couple of weeks with a suspicion I had hard evidence yesterday and I presume action was swiftly taken.

However, i'm still waiting to be employed by the MI5. Cool
