Life's a bitch huh?
Maybe if he'd declared the points in the first place they'd have been a bit less harsh on him? ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Yeah, right!
I was actually thinking that his premium would have gone up initially but would be coming back down again by now...... ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Unfortunately, he's getting what was coming to him. As part of his insurance contract he is obligated to tell them of any details that have changed that could affect his insurance premium, eg occupation, address, car details, claim and conviction details. Speeding doesn't sound particularly serious, but in the wrong place at the wrong time (and you never know when they are!!) they can be extremely dangerous - reducing times to react to a given situation and increasing stopping distances. Therefore someone who is known to break the speed limit is more likely to find themself in this situation than someone who doesn't, therefore they should pay more as they are a higher risk.
As they can't cancel the insurance that has already expired, they'll just add the convictions on at the renewal after they were obtained and charge him the whole lot in one go, rather than spreading it out over the last couple of years. If they're feeling really unpleasant, they may cancel his current insurance policy which he will then have to declare in future ("Have you ever had insurance declined for any reason" I think is the question) and this will also cause his premium to go up.
As far as insurance companies go, the best policy is to be honest and declare everything.
