I've just speaking to a guy here at work. He's just bought his wife a new car and rang his insurance company to put his name on the insurance aswell. He's been with the same company now for a few years now and just renews when he needs to. This is mainly because in the last 3 years he has picked up 9 bonus points for minor speeding offences, by renewing he doesn't need to tell them about these said points. Anyway, whilst they were sorting him out apprantly their computer system crashed causing them to loose all his information. He then had to give them all his info as if he was a new customer and was forced to tell them about the points. Obviously they now have him bent over a nicely lubed up ready for a severe butt raping. Now this guy has not made a single claim in 35 years, how can they justify fucking him over on the grounds of speeding??? Surly it should be all about the amount of claims made and the NCB's he's aquired. It's just so wrong and disheartening, all the wankers out there making false claims, people that can't drive and have many crashes. IMO he should not be punished for minor speeding offences like this.

Life's a bitch huh?

Maybe if he'd declared the points in the first place they'd have been a bit less harsh on him?

Laughing Laughing Yeah, right!

I was actually thinking that his premium would have gone up initially but would be coming back down again by now......

Unfortunately, he's getting what was coming to him. As part of his insurance contract he is obligated to tell them of any details that have changed that could affect his insurance premium, eg occupation, address, car details, claim and conviction details. Speeding doesn't sound particularly serious, but in the wrong place at the wrong time (and you never know when they are!!) they can be extremely dangerous - reducing times to react to a given situation and increasing stopping distances. Therefore someone who is known to break the speed limit is more likely to find themself in this situation than someone who doesn't, therefore they should pay more as they are a higher risk.

As they can't cancel the insurance that has already expired, they'll just add the convictions on at the renewal after they were obtained and charge him the whole lot in one go, rather than spreading it out over the last couple of years. If they're feeling really unpleasant, they may cancel his current insurance policy which he will then have to declare in future ("Have you ever had insurance declined for any reason" I think is the question) and this will also cause his premium to go up.

As far as insurance companies go, the best policy is to be honest and declare everything.

It just seems wrong that there's 35 years NCB's there and they shaft him any which way they can!!
