The power of the thing is quite poor for a 660cc lump, only giving about 49bhp and 115-120mph top speed. Not bad for a first bigger bike I suppose. ____________________ Honda MBX50 | Yamaha RD125LC | Suzuki RG125F Lucky Strike | Suzuki GSF600S

Hi
Those crossing large continents, especially on barely finished roads, are not likely to be cruising at high speed where the vibrations are worst.
The XTZ engined road bikes did tend to get a bit of a slagging off for the gear rations, with many tests complaining that they did not suit higher speed road work.
Power wise the GS is a claimed 51hp, while the XTZ engine is (in the MuZ Skorpian, probably the same for the SZR) a claimed 48hp.
It probably does outhandle the GS.
Just by luck I have an old copy of Bike magazine in my drawer with a bit on it. The full test was in the November 1996 edition. They say that it weighs about the same as a 400cc sports bike (dry weight 159kg). Problems are gearbox troubles and brake caliper corrosion. Top speed was 115mph (estimated for some reason), standing quarter in 14.2, 47hp@6500rpm and 50mpg average (14L fuel tank).
All the best

yeah cheers keith
M GS is supposedly a hefty 186kg dry (a new fireblade weighs 179!!)...
So performance isnt much better, but it'll handle and brake better, has more torque and has a much sportier look and riding position... I'm tempted at the price they go for... ____________________ "he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"- Dr. Johnson |
