HELP!

Help me please someone!
I cant get me bike working Crying or Very sad

I broke down last Friday along the motorway, she lost power and as i pulled over the engine cut out and wouldnt start again. Eventually managed to get a tow home.
Anyway, hubby pulled the bike apart and checked the obvious and it turns out the starter motor had given up the ghost and also the breather pipe going into the fuel tank had got trapped between the tank and the bars so when we took the pipe off there was a lot of air which probably caused her to lose power.
So anyway, we have now got a new starter motor and just put it on and she still not working. She clicks but doesnt try to turn over.
We have checked the solenoid and there is power getting to that and its clicking and there is power going to the terminals on the rectifier. Strange thing is when we put the lights on main beam and push the starter the dash lights go off. We are at a loss, I dont know anyone who knows about bike engines and I really dont know what to do as I cant get her anywhere as she wont start. Oh and the battery is fine as its fairly new and I have charged it up too.
Question is, 1) is there anyone near Bracknell whos willing to come and have a look at her? 2) Does anyone have any other ideas? 3) Does anyone know of someone near here who can help?

Could the battery be the problem, maybe needs charging or a new battery. If the lights go out when full beam and starter motor are used then this would sugest there isnt enought power to go around.

This is just my opinion though, could be wrong.

even tho the battery is newish, it's worth checking it is holding a charge. If the started died with a short, it could have discharged the battery very rapidly, and killed it.

have you tried jumpstarting it?

the fuse went on my cb500 causing the exact same kind of problem

not in the fuse box but in the starter relay! try that it also meant my battery wasnt charging

Have you tried bump starting it?
when my battery was boogered, I was able to bump it no problem?

Well it looks like we might have found the problem, we found the battery earth lead has a break in it. Hopefully that has fixed it. She starts now so we will see what happens.
