If air can get in between the carbs and airbox (where they join) will it affect the running of the bike?

as you are increasing the airflow to the carbs

Will make it run a bit oddly, but not that much.

All the best

I dont think it would it would make it run lean, as it is before the carb. I.e the air flowing into the carb controls fuel flow into the air stream as a result of the venturi effect. If the leak is after the carbs then you would then be leaning the mixture as there would no more petrol being added at this stage. You can run a bike without an air filter or box if you so wish (although not recommended). However you would then be introducing air with particles of dust etc which is not good for cylinder barrels. The symptoms of an air leak are over revving (often alarmingly so), and lack of power. Thumbs Up

you're right but not if the leak is prior the carb , after the carb it's dangerous

I ran my bike once I first restricted it, and it wouldn't go over 3k. Then I remembered to put the airbox in. Embarassed

Get it fixed, boyo.

Hi

With the airbox you also have the tubes from the carbs into the airbox. These pipes are of a specific length. With the airbox off you loose this effect and this can have very strange effects.

All the best

Highly tuned engines and/or ones jetted quite lean will suffer without an airbox fitted.

Richer jetted and less high tuned machines wont suffer as much.

Its best to make sure everything is properly clamped on and sealed. Silicon sealer is great for keeping airboxes sealed.

Removing the airbox and fitting individual filters can be done but requires alot of messing with jetting.

It's just when I put my airbox back on I wasn't 100% that it seals airtight to the carbs. I never noticed it before so thought it was something new. It still all runs fine so it's cool. Cool

Cheers everyone! Smile
