Hi,

This is my first post here.

Just getting back into riding my bike after a year or so break (VTR Firstorm although just p/exed for an 04 plate RSV Mille) Still got my Hein Gericke 'all seasons' textiles but it is a bit scruffy now after a couple of color breaking bins. Also it's no longer as waterproof as it used to be.
So, my question is what waterproof textile kit do you guys reccomend. I'll be commuting year round so it must be;
1. 100% Waterproof.
2. Windproof/warm.
3. Except armour.

I've seen a deal on the J & S site, Buffalo Boost jacket and akito cougar pants for £100 but I can't find any reviews....

Reccomendations greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Paul.

Alpine stars do a Black textile jacket and trousers combo for £280 which has a removable gore-tex liner. So you can keep it out in the summer/warmer months and put it back in for evenings/winter riding. Looks pretty smart too.Waterproof, breathable with openable vents......it seems liek a brilliant deal.

Im looking into this as an affordable and multi-purpose jacket. Wont be able to afford seperate leathers or even a lether jacket/ trousers combo initially.
Some 2-piece suits are quite affordable, but i really dont like the sense of looking like a power-ranger.

Hi,

I have a hein gericke jacket/pants combo, they zip together and are very warm with a removeable lining and zip open vents, there's CE approved armour in them and you can buy hip protectors and back protectors to put in them seperately, there's also a neck protector that zips up to cover your mouth and you put the helmet over the top, tightens up in all the right places and is very very comfy, cost me around 260 quid i think! money well spent!

Toby

(Btw I don't know the name of them but they hve a 2 yr warranty and the pants have grey panels on the front, if u find them then just ask what jacket matches and that'll be the right one, it's about 140 quid)

I did look at the HG's as I like my current kit (all seasons), they are very expensive though but do look good!

On the hein gericke theme, I recommend their Voyager III jacket - waterproof, breathable etc and a nice zip-on storm collar for the really crappy weather. I bought it for my DAS training in March which was spread over the two coldest weeks of the winter with sleet, rain and temperatures close to zero. Just had a sweatshirt on underneath but was warm as toast throughout Very Happy Cost between £150 and £200 I think.

Includes armoured shoulders and elbows. I paid something like £30 for separate back panel armour.

Yeah, it's just the waterproofing on them that I'm a bit concerned about, as I said I have HG at the mo and I do find that in heavy downpours I do get wet, (on my stomach:oops:).
My jacket does have a rip in the shoulder and the outer pocket but I don't see why that should effect the waterproofing. Confused

..anyway I thought I'd give another brand a try. Unless someone tells me they've had their HG for years and they're still 100% waterproof.

If it's just the waterproofing then might be worth you looking at something like nikwax before shelling out for new gear. I might be wrong but I think most "waterproof" garments need re-proofing after a while. Costs about £6 for a bottle; more than enough for a jacket.

I got my textiles from J&S in Northwich a few years ago. It's a Uvex jacket (nowt flashy) with removable lining and shoulder and elbow protectors. I bought a Hein Gericke back protector to put in, although it took a bit of "gentle persuasion" to fit it...
The trousers are J&S' own brand. Both have done their job, always waterproof (not the pockets) and quite warm. I think they cost about £140 in total, which I'm happy with for a single set of clothes that have done the biz in all weathers for over three years Thumbs Up

Cheers for your input, you're the 2nd person to reccomend Uvex! Smile
