Alpine stars do a Black textile jacket and trousers combo for £280 which has a removable gore-tex liner. So you can keep it out in the summer/warmer months and put it back in for evenings/winter riding. Looks pretty smart too.Waterproof, breathable with openable vents......it seems liek a brilliant deal.

Im looking into this as an affordable and multi-purpose jacket. Wont be able to afford seperate leathers or even a lether jacket/ trousers combo initially.
Some 2-piece suits are quite affordable, but i really dont like the sense of looking like a power-ranger. ____________________ Its Not a Melon, Its Clearly a Lime!!

On the hein gericke theme, I recommend their Voyager III jacket - waterproof, breathable etc and a nice zip-on storm collar for the really crappy weather. I bought it for my DAS training in March which was spread over the two coldest weeks of the winter with sleet, rain and temperatures close to zero. Just had a sweatshirt on underneath but was warm as toast throughout Cost between £150 and £200 I think.
Includes armoured shoulders and elbows. I paid something like £30 for separate back panel armour. |

If it's just the waterproofing then might be worth you looking at something like nikwax before shelling out for new gear. I might be wrong but I think most "waterproof" garments need re-proofing after a while. Costs about £6 for a bottle; more than enough for a jacket.

I got my textiles from J&S in Northwich a few years ago. It's a Uvex jacket (nowt flashy) with removable lining and shoulder and elbow protectors. I bought a Hein Gericke back protector to put in, although it took a bit of "gentle persuasion" to fit it...
The trousers are J&S' own brand. Both have done their job, always waterproof (not the pockets) and quite warm. I think they cost about £140 in total, which I'm happy with for a single set of clothes that have done the biz in all weathers for over three years ____________________ Monster m600
