I know I have and I'm not proud of it at all.

On the way home from work about 2 years ago in the drizzle when it was getting dark I overtook a car and went strait over a zebra crossing that people were crossing at the time.
I didn't see them and I wasn't close at all to hitting them, though I still felt physically sick afterwards.

I do consider myself to be a very good rider and all my mates think so, though I guess we all have momentarily lapses. Embarassed

I know this board is good enough to not judge me for the above, so I hope you can all feel free to share your tales.

Just yesterday I discovered that some vehicles are invisible... Shocked

A dark blue convertible approaching at speed against the backdrop of a dark green hedge, followed by a large white van going slowly, completely caught me out. What my problem really was was not observing properly. I got about 2 feet out of the (blind) junction before the 'Oh fuck!!! Shocked ' reflex made me brake. Embarassed

yep, more so in the car than on the bike, the biggest i remember would be flying down the a51 about 80mph then turning into the junction towards hixon, because of the speed, the car lost grip and spun, doing a 360 spin, and ended up in the hedge, narrowly missing a concrete post. What shit me up was how close i had been to seriously injuring or maybe worse 3 mates.
After that im a much more careful driver, especially when i have passengers

my biggest fault is leaving my indicator on

turned left out of a road a few months back and carried straight on

saw a car about to pull out onto the main road and rode on my merry way realised after i had rode past the junction that my left indicator was still on

and thought if he had pulled out then it would have been my own fault.

i've done that a few times Thumbs Down

Yeah I learnt my lesson in my car when I was 17. Like you do you have a few races etc. Well I was having a little sprint race out on a country road and my back wheel hit a puddle at 60 MPH, the car just flung around and we went side ways into a long left hand corner, my mate just sat there saying calmly "we are in the ditch here mate" Luckily we stopped in time and the car behind stopped as well. Did make me think though. 7 yeasr on and I reckon I have learnt my lesson as I am alot more sensible.

went round a round about today. It wasnt perfectly round, as i went round the gentle bit my peg wentdown, the roundabout studdenly tightened up with cars entering to my left. I had to ease the weight off the peg and lean further only just getting away with it.
Makes me think about all those times i've gone flying into a corner fully committed and how badly things could have turned out if there had been gravel, cow shit, a horse, car or another bike.
I try not to think about it because whenever i do i lose all desire to ride a bike again. Sick

Comming round a wet corner in my car. Going to fast and car started going in a straight line raither than around the bend and headed towards the pavement.

If I hadnt of let go of the brakes and let the engine do the brakeing, Id of probably hit the curb...

I made my worst boo-boo yet just the other day. Had been into town for dinner while at work, and realised I was going to be late getting back in as there was really heavy traffic. Came down a hill leaving town only to get stuck behind a van, just approaching a mini roundabout. I use this roundabout everyday and am well used to it by now. I really don't know why but I just followed the van infront of me onto the mini-roundabout straight out in front of a bigger white van coming from my right hand side. It was then that I realised I hadn't even checked to see if he was there! I've never done it before, must have been just one of those mind lapses. Suppose I was lucky really as it could have been messy.

For me it's taken a few 'minor' smashes to learn my lesson.

I think you need that in your life for 'long-term' self preservation, even if you do do abit of damage in the process. For the guys/gals that havn't had a spill (in a car or on a bike) I hope it doesn't hurt too bad when it happens. Wink

Back when I had a car I had just come through the Tyne Tunnel and was heading up towards the Silverlink roundabout on the A19. It was still a long way to the roundabout and I must have been on another planet because I suddenly realised that there was a huge queue for the roundabout about 100 yards in front of me and I was doing about 80mph... there was no way I could have stopped so by reflex I swerved into the outside lane to avoid the queue - if there had been traffic in both lanes it could have been very messy Embarassed
