Wanted - bike to keep NCB going

I am after a bike, that is going to cost peanuts to buy and peanuts to insure. I have 5 years NCB that I want to keep, but cannot afford to buy another bike to use at the moment, so was wondering if anyone knew of someone selling a frame/bike for peanuts, that I could just insure to keep my NCB?

I think on ebay there is someone selling a GT550 frame with V5.
I guess if that's SORN declared you could still insure, well someone might steal it

I have a XS750 with v5, project bike so in bits and not all of them necessarily work, owes me about £250. Only drawback is you would have to actually take posession of it........ cos I'm sick of it cluttering up my garden. Could deliver it for petrol money too.

well this is kind of the situation im in, i sold me rs125 about a month or so ago and carried on the insurance to keep my 2 years NCB going, untill i got the zxr400 insured when i passed me test.
I phoned up my insurer and they told me that it would be best to cancel the rs insurance, i asked about the NCB and they told me that i would still have 2 years NCB to use, as long as i took out another policy within 2 years of cancelling the insurance

You may not even have to own the bike - plenty of places will let you insure some one else's bike (you could quite reasonably be intending to ride it, but not be able to get cover on thier policy.)

So find someone with a cheap scooter or similar than you can jot down teh details of.

Can I really insure someone else's bike????
The reason I ask, is that my husband, forgot to put me on his insurance on the fireblade. I have owned a fireblade myself for 2 years, and had no trouble insuring it, now he has called them back and asked to put me on, and they say that I am too young, he will lose 70% of his money if he cancels the policy, so I am stuffed!!

If I can insure the blade too that would be ideal!! We can both use it!

Anyone know for sure?

You can.

Some insurance companies won't, some say they won't then will let you if you point out they're being silly.

Just insurre it for TPO, so there's no question if there's a theft claim (as each company could point to the other to sort it out.)

They can get very iffy about insuring a bike twice. Suspect it would flag up all sorts of markers for fraud. There are also exclusions on most insurance policies saying that if the claim is covered by another policy then the policy is null and void. Could get nasty if, for example, the bike was parked on a public car park and fell onto another bike. Technically both policies would cover the claim for the other bike and so both would refuse to pay up.
