Right, i have my MOT re-test tomorow morning, it failed on a number of things that have now been rectified... apart from the last one. The previous owner decided it would be fun to drill out a few holes in the back of the silencer... it has now failed the MOT on them.

Now before you ask, i dont know if it is because the MOT station deemed the exhaust to be "too loud", or because it just has holes in it...

My question is, how should i go about getting this through MOT tomorow morning? So far the best i can come up with is GumGum Laughing Anyone had similar experiences? or is able to pass on valuable tips? Thumbs Up

If it is a lot of little holes, why not put some pop rivetts in them?

My Arc welder would simply set the exhaust on fire surely...

At the minute i have fabricated a steel semi-circular plate that slots into the pipe, and have surrounded it with a solid pasting of gumgum.
Whether i should take it to the same station and show them the MOT fail or take to a new station and not mention it, in the hope that they will simply not look for the holes, or if they do... not in any great detail?

Depends on how good you are with it Wink

Traditionally you would MIG, gas weld or braze an exhaust though.

If it is a free re-test, give it a shot with your plate. It is unlikley to be the holes that have failed it, more the noise.

make the most of the free retest.
There not doing them any more (unless you keep the vehicle at the garage for work to be done)

And the MOT price went up by a tenner on Monday. !!!

My 19 year old Honda Superdream had a rust hole the size of a 50p on the silencer. I pop rivetted a piece of old paint-tin over the top. The mechanic siad that it was fine, it did however fail on several minor electrical faults tho Sad

It might depend on how tatty the bike is as to whether you want a bit of dulux' finest bandaging your exhaust!!

If you use a "fat" welding rod and set your amp's down low you can get it to fill holes, its not the best way or the proper way but if your unsure with the welder then it will work for hole filling.

well before i got my welder i put my old project car through an MOT. bearing in mind the downpipe was a different bore to the rest of the exhaust system it was blowing.. some gungum and a sheet of tin, wrapped it round, jubilee'd it, gungummed over it all.. let it tick over for an hour and gently drove it down the test centre so it wouldn't blow.. up in the ramps, didn't even rev it and passed it..

sorry about the crappy paragraph, it is late.
