It was good while it lasted, but now my Honda NSR 125R is destroyed.

What happened?

I was coming round a corner about 40 sticking to the right of center on the road getting ready to overtake on the straight road ahead.

Next minute the car infront slams on, I dont even have time to brake and i am over my handle bars and onto the top of his car. Me here being indestructable for some unknown reason, rolls of and lands on my feet having the feeling in my testicles like someone has come over and booted me in the balls.

I have a look around, and see the reason he slammed on... a parked car on the left hand side of the road. Unaware of this as it was blocked by his car as i was riding right of center... he slammed on to give way to another car. Never even had time to think...

The ambulance driver said his brake lights did'nt look like they where working when he moved the car and stopped it...

But who cares about this. I guess i am lucky to be alive and writing this message to you all...

In my garden sits a destroyed bike :~

~ Front end has been pushed in with bent forks
~ Smashed front lights
~ Crack on mudguard at the front
~ Dint in tank from my testicles (where the bollocks rest)
~ Petrol leak coming from somewhere?
~ Back end fairing is broken
~ Seat is torn at the back
~ Back light smashed

Apart from that, bike looks fine Rolling Eyes

£2250 down the drain and no bike and no money to fix it...

Any suggestions on what to do now?

Ive phoned my insurance company and reported it.

Regards.
Jon

If his brake lights don't work, it's his fault, if they do, it's probably yours.

Tell me a case in which the driver in front has had to pay out from a rear end collision

Get the police to check. If he has a car with no working brake lights then he shouldn't be on the road.

But you don't need me to tell you that do you.

If it gets serious, the police should be able to tell whether they were working at the time of the collision, even if they were destroyed during it. I believe it's something to do with the effects of having the bulb vacuum broken while the bulb is glowing white hot. If they weren't on, the filaments should be intact I think.

Hate to say this, Jonathan, but I think you're in for a bad ride here (like you've not had one already).

Because, irrespective of whether the guys brake lights were working or not, and irrespective of the 'fact' he slammed on the brakes for no apparent reason known to you, unless the driver admits being at fault (which they never do when bikers are involved), I have a horrible feeling that in the eyes of the law it will be YOU who'll be blamed for 'Driving Without Due Care And Attention. IE: You didn't pay attention to the situation in front of you.

It's a real b*****d, and I sympathise with you. But I think you're gonna have to PROVE that the driver was at fault. Cos he ain't going to admit it.

Shit, innit ? Hate it myself too.

Shit, bad luck with the bike Sad

Try and take the attitude of "What could I have done to have avoided this accident?"...

It could be said that you were following the car in front too close, and therefore couldn't:

a) See the parked car and anticipate the first car breaking.
(i) Also to anticipate the first car pulling out round the first car during/just before your overtake?
b) React to the car breaking.

Out of interest, did you see the car on the other side of the road? Could've been painful if you had gone ahead with that overtake... or if it had been a little closer and you were riding to the right of center on a corner!

If the bulb is broken when on the filament will oxidise and blacken, however if it is broken when off (or not working) the filament won't and the two can easily be distinguished between.

More info here.

Unlucky dude, glad to hear you're still alive though. Thats the important thing.

And I have to agree with "the old geeza" on this one. Just sounds like you were tailgating a little or not perhaps concentrating as much as you should have been (as we ALL do).

If it turns out it's his fault, hope you screw him for all it's worth.

I guess its very important that you find out if his brake lights are working or not - He can change them in the meantime I guess, if he knows whats best for him.

Obviouslly if they were then you wont be able to claim off his insurance as it will be technically your fault.

Yeah was going to, but then I thought, hang on a mo that looks like someone's been travelling to close to the car in front. Hit it when it braked and tried blaming the brake lights. Rolling Eyes Embarassed

I agree. If your balls did that to the tank I'd think they're just about appearing as a couple of haemorrhoids by now Shocked
