Hiya folks,

I'm another newbie come to badger you all for tips and tricks n stuff.

I'm Keti, living in Manchester (woohoo!), got my DAS test on September 2nd and still having issues with u-turns (i.e. ending up on pavements quite a lot, 50% of the time with the bike, the other 50% generally on my arse!)

So, that's me.. going to get down to some replying now!

K.

Welcome Smile
I bet when you're doing U turns and you think you're heading for the kerb you look at it, don't you? In this sort of situation, you generally end up heading where you're looking, so if you make a point of looking up the road where you want to go, you'll find yourself naturally heading that way.
Rather than landing on your arse all the time, maybe you should practise in a car park, pretending the white lines are kerbs? Smile Thumbs Up

I had a helluva job doing U-Turns before my test. I used to wobble like mad just as I started the straight-line pull-off bit. Then, as I started to turn, every single muscle in my body would tense up and I just couldn't do 'em Mad

My instructor told me to relax completely, stop looking at where I was going and focus on where I want to be at the end of the turn.

It took loads and loads of practice. Throttle on, slipping clutch and rear brake control. Eventually I could do U-Turns as easily as 'point-and squirt' Very Happy

Don't have to do them now I've passed my test, but I always like having a go just to keep a bit of practice in Thumbs Up

Enjoy your trip on the crazy train. Very Happy

At least after you pass your test you'll never have to do a u turn again.

Well, he will, Flip, in order to turn around and go the other way. But at least he'll be able to do them with both feet down eh ? Wink

First things first.. I'm a she, not a he. I just checked Laughing

I'm planning on getting a ZZR600 (was considering a 400 but it being a grey import I'm not too confident I'd find bits easily enough). I'm looking at a second hand bike as well.. it's looking likely that I'll drop it at some point and I'd be really peeved if it was a new one Mr. Green Anyhow, I've heard it's a good bike for short-arses, which I am Very Happy

As for u-turns, bleurgh. It's exactly what was said.. I do look at the curb, and that's when I smack right into it. I can do u-turns, but only when I'm not concentrating on doing em. Typical women drivers.. Rolling Eyes Thanks for the tips tho.. will defo work on em!

Cheers for the warm welcome!

Ooops Exclamation

An oversight on my part! Oh well, I am an old geeza after all. I know, I just checked too Embarassed

Oh, and I'm also a short-arse, so, just like you, Keti, that limits the bikes I can handle Sad

Cheers Acidburnz.. might have to harrass ya with lots of questions! What's your insurance like if you don't mind me asking? (This will be my first bike, after having just passed my test, fingers crossed, so I'm expected to get crucified..)

And don't worry Old Geezer.. ya get three strikes and *then* you're out Laughing

Full bike license year and a half

Cheers for that.. it's given me some sorta guideline and now I know I'm defo going to get shafted for insurance Very Happy I'm 23 as well but this will be my first bike, I doubt my area is classed as 'A' in any shape or form and although I've held a full car licence for 5 years, I learned to drive in Greece and have never had a car here or been on any insurance policies here.

Ah well, ya gotta smile Very Happy I'll just have to put it on the credit card and be really careful not to smack into anything heheh

Thanks again, helpful info!

Ozzy or the FLC cover?

I like both but Ozzy wins.
