travelling round a loverly 5 exit round about near goole i was heading for exit 5. Some prick on the inside of me (the lane for exit 1,2 and so on) decided he wanted the one we were just passing, and as his rear passenger door leveled with my right hand he suddenly started to move over to the left, so i dive out of the way and by the time i come to my senses im on the bloody slip road to the M62! (not a big problem i here you say, but im a CBT rider and not allowed)

furious that this nobber has pushed me into an illegal position and that its 5miles to the m18 junction and a further 6 down there to the nearest junction off the motorway i set off on my travels, sticking in the left hand lane and sitting at 55 along with the trucks.

Half a mile away from J5 of the m18 and the blue lights are flashing behind me! B*stard!

I pull over and the officer begins his speech on what the F*ck am i doing on the motorway!

I explained but it seemed very far fetched as far as he was concerned, he escorted me off the motorway and asked me to pull over at a safe location in throne just off the motorway.

he got me say in the car and was explaining the highway code to me and making me feel very thick indeed! This annoyed me as i was there by mistake, then he cracks the scariest words of my riding life!

possible 6 month ban!!

Noooooooo!

I explained over and over, he understood that the roundabout was a strange one and that people get caught out, but this was no excuse!

The real fear was coming now, but then it all changed, He agreed to put the problem down to lack of experience and admitted he didnt really want the paper work for what seemed to be a mistake.

Fweeew, i thanked him and got on my merry way!

The yorkshire lad rides for another day!

Lucky lad, although it is fustrating when they don't believe what your saying. Good that you got away with it though, but must have been scary going down that motorway expecting a copper to appear.

Lucky, but if I were you I know I would have pulled over on the slip road and got back onto the roundabout.

You got away with it, both with the police and avoiding any actual problems on the motorway, that's the main thing!

I can understand frustration at your version of events not being believed straight away, but one wonders how many times the PC has stopped genuine piss-takers who have come up with similar excuses.

the motorway itself didnt bother me, iv travelled at speed on the sheffield parkway (3 lanes wide at 1 point) and also the A64 to scarb, (where i was travelling back from), i travel at what i feel safe and if they wanna go faster, they have 2 lanes in which to pass me!

As for wheeling the bike back up the slip road, i was fuming inside the lid and therefore missed the chance, before i knew it i was 3 miles down the road!!!

the 6month ban scared me rigid, thats from car and bike! and will have to reapply for my provis and retake my CBT all at my own cost becuase some numpty pushed me onto the motorway, but my aim now is pass the test, then ride the motorway if i wanna and no one can stop me, i still think i will take the old road into scarb, its nicer!

It's understanable they wanted to drag you in and ban you for 6 months, put yourself in their shoes 'sorry mate, but you'll never believe this.. I was pushed'.

Glad you got away with it and nothing happened beyond 'naughty boy! this is the highway code ...'

Nice looking bike, how fast does it go? [I'm sure you've tried top speed Razz]

Still trying to get my head round your description of what happened here? So he was on the inside of you, and he moved to the left, ie away from you to take his exit, which came up before your exit? Why did you need to "dive" out the way if he was moving away from you, and how did he "push" you?

Sorry if I'm being thick, I really can't see how you did this unless you were going round the roundabout the wrong way!

I can only imagine that when he says inside, he means the inside of the corner rather than inside lane? Hence the other driver pulled across him from his right, forcing him left onto the sliproad. Question

But he says the guy was on the inside lane for exits 1&2, which sounds like his left!

Unless you were in the wrong lane yorkshirelad?

Which actually would be just as much an offence as the slip road is deemed a one way road, and unless you can pick up the bike and carry it when it would be deemed a parcelits still illegal. MInd you, if people didn't see sense over that then I've get worried about humanity!

I nearly made the mistake of going on the motorway so many times,
I had even signalled once and about to join the slip road.

Its was natural as I have had a car license since I was 17 (now 33).

Saying that since passing my bike test, I can honestly say I hate motorways when on the bike.

Too many cars, trucks etc, if you fall off on an "A" road you stand a chance.

Plus my mirrors be come useless at about 60...

I think I know what junction / roundabout he means. M62 Junction 36 / A614 Goole. It's being changed recently to allow access to a new glass making and industrial estate.
The roundabout markings are like a spiral, each lane of the spiral designed to get you to the next exit. So you have to jump over to the right if you want to get to the exit after that.
So if a car is on your right (in the wrong lane/part of the spiral) they would have to turn left across you to make the exit. The roundabout is also quite small so it's a tight turning circle.

It's quite unusual and the first time I encountered it came off the M62 westbound went round following the lane markings and ended up getting back on the M62 west Rolling Eyes Embarassed

But the car wasn't on his right, it was on the "inside" of him, ie left.......!

Unless of course the guy was on the inside and didn't turn off at the exit his lane led to, in which case he would continue round on the inside of yorkshirelad and stop him from moving left himself to get to his exit?

Is that what happened?

Need Yorkshirelad's input but I think the confusion is caused by
Yorkshirelad3 wrote:

So IMO the inside means the inside lane(s) of the roundabout, which would make the car on the right side of the bike. The inside lanes of the roundabout should take you to exits further round. It's the outer ones that spit you out at the next exit. So a car entering the roundabout to turn right and not using the lanes marked would have to cut across traffic to the left to make the exit.

I hope that makes it as clear as mud Wink

<edit>Found what I was looking for, this new fangled interweb net thingy is wonderful Very Happy
The spiral markings are like that shown in the lower roundabout. Except the junction on the M62 has 5 exits, clockwise from the top would be A614 Rawcliffe, next M62 exit, at the bottom, 6 o'clock the A614 Goole, at 9 o'clock position is the industrial site and finally the slip road onto the M62 westbound (say between 10 & 11 o'clock position). So for example a car entering from A614 Rawcliffe heading for the M62 west exit would cause problems if it didn't move across until the last exit.
HTH Thumbs Up

Do you reckon that there would have been trouble if you had pulled over at the first SOS phone & told the chaps at the control centre you were forced onto the motorway and you require a police escort to get you off safely?

Under the circumstances I'd say that I'd have probably done just that.

At least it would look like you had made some effort to get yourself off while trying to keep within the law.

The only thing that would make me hesitate in this plan, would be that you would be exposed to high speed traffic hurlting past you until the rescue party arrived.
(as I was on the hard shoulder of the M4 last Thursday, except there was no rescue party & I carried out running repairs by myself!)

I'm glad you got off the motorway OK, and the police were lenient in their approach.

I may have been tempted to use the hard shoulder at a very low speed, therefore not trying to deceive anybody. Then the police would have seen that you knew already you wernt supposed to be there.
