Most stupid thing ive done with my bike + advise needed...

The way NOT to fill our bike up....

ok its about 9.30 in the morning yestaday and i had work at 5.30 and decided to go meet this girl i know, its about a 25mile journey and remembered i was on reserve so off i go to the petrol station.

as it was weekday it was busy and i normaly go to pumps where the bike leans into the pump so easier to get pump in and out but all this side ones where full so go to one where the bike was leaning away, looking back i should of walked round the bike so the angle was easier but i didnt.

i was halfway though filling up (and in a daydream i must admit) and the pump came out slightly and the petrol coming out must of hit the rim of the fuel tank and next think i relises is that petrol is spraying into the air (quite high) and by the time i react i realised that i have just sprayed the whole of my bike in petrol!!!

so i pay for the petrol looking and feeling like a bit of an idiot and go home to wash the bike off as it stunk of petrol,

the problem is that some when on the screen and wont come off, i get a pic later but not sure how to get it off, i tryed water and then soapy water....white sprit maybe?any ideas?

Probally f*cked the screen? Plastic and petrol don't mix well.

Suspect it is not petrol on the screen but instead marks where the petrol has reacted with the material the screen in made of.

If you are fairly sure that you are giving up on the old screen, try polishing it with some very mild abrassive (for example, toothpaste) and a soft cloth

Autosol works good on that sort of thing too.

Shit bad luck. I ruined a good pair of strides en-route to a wedding doing that. (They weren't acrylic BTW)
Try a CD cleaning kit polish (not the isopropyl) the polish.
But The petrol may have affected the mechanical properties of your screen and it could shatter under load/vibration.
Save pennies for MRA replacement from Skidmarx or whatever they're called.
If your burd really loves and understands you she'll do some OT for the thing.

I always fill up sitting on the bike. Saves putting it on the center stand and makes sure the tank is all the way ful. Some places won't allow this I'm told but I've never had a problem yet

For ages i have only used one petrol station where u put your card in at the pump and dont need to get off the bike.

Recently I had my sidestand fixed so I can leave it without leaning it against something. I have started using other petrol stations and was very surprised the other day when they wdnt turn the pump on until i got off my bike and took my helmet off. I wont be going there again.

I htink the same kind of thing happened Ewen McGreggor [spelling ] in "the long way round", that Charlie lad was filling his tank, and sprayed petrol into Ewens eyes, about 2 days after Ewen had had laser eye surgery! lol, then Ewen did it to himself a few weeks later lol

Just for amusement's sake, get an empty and clean yoghurt or cream pot. Pour a little petrol in the bottom and see how long it takes to dissolve. That's what happened to your screen.

For an added chuckle, set light to it.

yep deferenetly need a new one, yet another thing to buy and if all goes well with the test (havnt booked but will if pass theory) i will be selling the RS for a 400cc but keep having to buy her stuff! ph well one more thing to list when selling it!lol

Andy, this happened to me twice when I had my RS, never happened yet on the CBR. Not sure if its a dodgy nozzle or Im more experienced now!

It's off a '03 so should fit, was taken off bike about 1 month and has been in storage since, £10 + £5 P&P

cool, i will get back to you on that.

My current screen has loads of scratches on it from the previous owner who has done a lot of motorway runs or country roads or something, lots of scratches all going to one side and the screen is really flimsy..

I get bad wind blast of it when going above 60 mph!
