Quick question on CBTs

Just a quick question, if you do your CBT on an automatic 50, is it legal for a geared 125??

Does someone know for definite, or have an old thread that covered this question?

dont think so.

If you go automatic, thats all yer entitled to ride. If you go manual, you can do both?

But I can (kinda) do my gears and I ride a geared bike (50) on an automatic CBT, so I'm confused.

If you're over 17, you can ride a geared bike.

CBT is totally unrestrictive of tranmission type and engine size (0-125cc)

You must take your cbt on a geared bike to ride a geared bike on the road.
It works the same as a car, your not able to drive a geared car if you take an automatic test.

Its only a few quid anyway for another cbt and it will also show if you have picked up any bad habit's

I hope to be buying an NSR125 soon, and I was just deciding whether to just ride it on a CBT with L plates, or take my full test and get the whole caboodle. I just think I would fail alot on my test especially theory lol, what do you guys think?

Nope, there is one CBT qualifaction. If you're 17 you can ride a 125 and if you're 16 you can ride a 50. There is no restriction to automatics if you did your CBT on a twist'n'go. You can do your CBT on a 50cc ped and you can then ride home on a geared 125cc quite legally (assuming you're 17 ).

From the DSA website: "A CBT certificate obtained on a moped is also valid for motorcycles once the rider has reached the age of 17 years and has the necessary licence."

So should I ride it on a CBT until I get more experience, and then go for my full test, or just go for my full test straight away.

I think your best off asking the people who take you for your CBT,
Your theory test cert lasts for quite a while (2 years I think) so it would be up to you.
Personally I'd go for the full test as soon as possible due to Mr Government being anti bike so, it will only get harder as I think there wanting people to be only eligable for a full bike licence on there 40th birthday

I am 100% certain that you can take your CBT on a 50cc automatic at 16 and ride a geared 125cc at 17.

you can take your CBT on a 50cc twist'n'go and ride a 125cc geared bike legally as that is what i was doing untill i passed my a2 last week
