I passed my test on monday and I'm so surprised at how cheap bike insurance is for me.
I eventually settled for a policy with Equity Red Star for £118. It's only Third Party Fire & Theft, £200 excess and insured to ride any bike. I considered Fully Comprehensive but I only paid a grand for my bike and the excess on most of the policies I found were £500+ so it just didn't seem worthwhile.
I really did expect it to be so much more. I've been driving a car accident free for 12 years and my insurance for that is a fair bit more without ever having made a claim.
Wonders will never cease Smile

do you get breakdown cover with that mate? Suprised me too how much insurance was that was the sole reason for me in deciding to pack in cars and get a bike licence)

I want to find an insurance company that can offer me breakdown cover, ride any bike so I can ride my mates big power bikes and be cheap like that quote.

What I meant to say in my initial post was that the excess on the fully comp policies were £500+ not that the policies themselves were that much.

Hi there gimp.
There was an option with breakdown with the policy but I didn't take it out. I checked first and the one I have with the car covers me with the bike too.
My age and the fact that I'm female seem to play a big part in the final price.
Check out www.directchoice.co.uk That's where I found the policy and they give you a number of different options to suit your needs.

Changed to ebike insurance this year, price for my GSX600 was £120 TPFT with breakdown cover and legal cover. Can do all sorts like pay as you go (this also gives you 1 years nc after 8 months), reduce cover through winter, ride other bikes etc. Seems very flexible.

The only bit thats important is how they behave when you put a claim in, and I'm not planning on finding out too soon Laughing

It was the riding any bike option that swung it for me. You never know when something like that will come in handy.

I think you will find that they are universally crap and slow to pay out in the event of a claim. Little to choose between them.

I kept telling my son Sam that being ginger meant that he was rare and special. I overheard him telling his brother this when his brother was jibing him one day. His brother replied, while crossing his eyes and twisting his body into a weird and somewhat scarry posture "Yeah! You got it Spam-Edd, you're well spethiaaaaal"

I no longer tell Sam he's special with regard to his hair colour. Instead I've given him the option to dye it when he's a bit older.

I gave Michael (Sam's brother) a thorough ticking off and grounded him via means of staplegunning his dangly bits to the kitchen table.
Sam now feels smug and Michael thinks twice. RESULT!

(Okay, I may, just may have made up that last bit. The thought did cross my mind though!)

I paid £320 fully comp after passing test.

When I was a learner (all of 2.5 months) it was £160 fully comp.

But it goes on age and other factors.

ie i'm 33, driven a car for 16 years, the bikes in a garage with ground anchor, 2 chains, 2 alarms and a ford mondeo with immobiliser & alarm parked in front of it.

Wheras if I were 17 and the bike were outside, with a sheet over it......................

The ER5 is not an expensive bike, don't know what my excess is.

But there was nowt in it between 3rd party & fully comp for me, perhaps only £60

I just passed my test after 4 years as a learner and its costing me £300 tpft on a VFR 750, which i reckon is pretty good. Anyway, woohoo, more welsh bikers, girly ones too!

You know, a week through my test and 900+ miles under my butt, my testostorone levels are soaring and I'm getting less like a girly by the day. My arm, neck and upper back muscles are developing, I'm getting foul mouthed, derogatory towards women, (especially myself) and my favorite tipple of real ale is making me fart and burp and smell like a man. My best buddie Pete asked me last night if he could shag me before I sprouted a dick.

Sad thing is, I've never been so happy!

8 Points, 28, 1 year NCB (passed test last may) £400 TPFT on a bandit 600, fortunately they don't take into account accidents in other vehicles as I've tree'd 1 car and written off another, 1 my fault (argueing the toss with the tree didn't help - wouldn't admit liability) the other joint blame. That's with Norwich Union Direct but I've been quoted £180 with Equity red star but something in the small print put me off - can't remember what now.
