... when my bike's ticking over there is a light tapping noise (sounds like a car tappit).

You cannot here it hardly on the right, but is noticible on the left side fairing of the bike.

Any ideas ? It's not really loud, but you know how it is when you notice it, it seems louder than it is.

Bikes on a 51 plate.

Blimey its bound to be the clutch basket.

Does the noise go away when you pull the clutch in?

If the bike is a 51 then I sincerely doubt you have engine trouble...

Wise man once say: "If you have to strain to hear engine rattle, then it is normal sound!"

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Cheerz mate, don't think it's anything serious as bike's performance is fine.

I'll try pulling the clutch in nd see what happens, but is does it in neutral on tick over.

Bikes only got 5k mile on it so I don't think it's the CCT, and I've been told that the CCT it a distinct sound.

This definately sounds like a tapit.

I'm just one of those people when they here a knocking on a car or bike I have to get to the bottom of it coz it gets on my tits.

Perhaps it's a shrink and not a mechanic I need. Very Happy

How long you had yours for Bendy ?

Happy with it or any plans for owt new?

Had a quick go on my mates GSXR 1000 K5 the day. I did not want to like, but he forced me to Wink

Didn't open it up or owt (just up to 70 on a twistie) , was affraid, not so much of the power, more the chance of knacking/crashing/dropping it.

What I did notice was the craftmanship, very thin plastics, and it all just did not feel as tough as me CBR.

Had it for two and a half years and no, not really got any plans to change.

If I hadn't got into trackdays, I maybe would have changed it by now (probably for a Speed Triple or some big naked thing) but it's still better than I am so there's no reason to change. Smile

I really need to take that point of view, play it repeatedly as I sleep or something...

Could be the good old exhaust brackets coming slightly loose.
My 2001 Hornet engine's making a similar sound which I know I shouldn't be worried about, but I've only had it a few months so I've no idea if it's normal.
I'm trying to ignore it...trying...trying...

It does sound like the cct to me. Mine went and the dealers replaced it under warranty. If your bike is still covered get to the dealers quick.

Yep it sounds like a cam chain tensioner to me too.

The engines did get noisier in general as the bikes got newer, the garage will probably tell you it's down to how close the tolerances are in the engine. Rolling Eyes

If you fancy a litre bike I can recommend the 1000RR. Wink
