New to Cub C90 need your help

Hi i got a C90 at the beggining of summer from a friend that had it in his barn for more the 20 years...

i got to clean the carburator and i have changed the oil,cleaned the gas thank and hose

Now i need to identify the bike itself..
i know its a honda Cub C90 from my research on the web..

but i dont know what year

where can i find info on identifying the years it was made..

and is there a place i can download the service manual for it..
i found links to many manual here..but could not figure out if one was good for my oldies..

it was surely made in the 60's..the only thing that need to be fix visually is the seat cover that is lighly damaged..

restauring this old thing will be my project for the long winter in here..(i live close to Montreal,Quebec,canada...)

Get the chassis number (it should be stamped into the right hand side of the headstock) and give your local Honda dealer a call - they should be able to tell you the year of manufacture from that.

the only number i found is C90E-145240

does it look like it?

That could most definatly be it. Where did you find it? It will be stamped into the metal on the frame (just above the front forks).

I found it right on the right side on the motor casing

i sent the number by email to my honda dealer

hopefully i will find a few other thing,like the type of spark plug(the one in it is so old the numer on it are unreadeble)

i think that the coil for ignition is dead too...

probably because of me..i didnt knew if it was a 6 or 12 volt battery in it cause it was missing so i putted a variable power supply on it..the light went on at 6v but were kind of lown is i cranked up the power supply to 12 volts..then i cranked it...to check for fire...

it did worked but only 3 time then nothing...

from what i can see its the really the coil..i found a wiring diagram that looks like the one for my byke...

will confirm when i will know the years this thing was made..

If that number was on the motor then it will be the engine number. They should still be able to get you the year from that though.

I found some other number on the frame just on top of the motor..on the left side

the number is C90-B049128

will send it to the dealer too..

If it an old one, have a good look up under the back mudguard where the fuel tank joins. They are a pressed steel frame and can start to come apart here.

Hopefully you will find it has already been welded up in there and given a good thick coat of paint. If it hasn't been done, be aware that this is a very common MOT fail and is one of the first places the inspector will look.

some cover of the moter are removed..wanted to take a look at it,will be removing the whole motor this week
(if the wife is not too much on my back)

so that i can really check it all...

since it was stored for a loooooong time i will change the piston ring and pass some stone to make it smooth in it..

Make sure you have a manual.

If you are taking the engine out and apart, make sure you clean out the centrefugal oil filter. It is often neglected and can have a surprising amount of junk in it.

Tidy looking example. I think that was made in 1967 so for a 38 year old bike, it is in very good nick.

almost no rust showing at all

this bike have 6962 miles on it..

like i said it was in a barn under a large amount of straw..
(the straw feel on it slowly for years..)

and they found it back when they had to clean the place cause they were selling the barn

for 20.00$ canadian.(not even 15 euro) i am sure it was a good deal...

in fact it was more to pay for the gas to bring it at my home then for the bike itself

One small question...

do you think i should chnage the color of it?

i am thinking of the Honda red..

And anyone know of a way to clean the plastic leg covers...same with the 2 small plastic cover on each side(not on the photo)...

I'd stick to the original colour, you have a very nice example of an old C90 there that you could keep original throughout.

You may be able to download a manual off the internet, but when you include the cost of printing and binding it you may as well buy a secondhand one off ebay. Its the most popular vehicle in history, so you should have no trouble finding a second hand manual.

To clean the plastic leg covers you might get away with leaving them overnight in a lot of water with some biological washing powder. Probably have to leave them in the bath, its going to be the only container big enough.

Don't change the colour. It is original and unusual.

You'd probably even get away with using a mild abrasive like T-cut rubbing compound on the leg shields (try it in a small area first) or new ones aren't all that expensive. My grandmother would probably have told you to use lemon juice.

I presume you are in Canada? over here parts for them are dirt cheap from https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk I think they may dispatch overseas too.

The C90 has a real cult following and rightly so because they are the best bike in the world, a C90 will go anywhere...slowly but it will get you there.

Thanks all for the feedback..look like i was about to do something bad..

we dont have much of those around and my Honda dealer didnt even answered my email...

i will try to find more info with dealers that are overseas,thanks for the links...

i never deal with ebay..to much of a trouble..but will talk with a friend..he always check every damn electronics stuff sold there..

I am sure he will help me..

the last thing i need to be sure is the year...

do you know of a Honda dealer that answer email request?

By the way..i will put the plastic stuff in the pool over night..

one of my friend told he that it was the way he cleanned his plastic chair last year..( they fell in the pool cause of high wind and became white as if they were new...LOL)

I'm sure david silver spares will be able to tell you which year it is actually, give them an e-mail (and make it sound like your going to buy someing )

Very very nice bike, i'd love one myself, they have become bizzarely pricey as many monkey bikes (honda DAX) use the same engines as the c90, which means there also loads of tuneing parts!
