Hi

https://www.guardian.co.uk/renewable/Story/0,2763,1553211,00.html

Most of it is about rising gas prices, but there is one bit to worry us.

Guardian wrote:
But that could be about to change: the Met Office has just published its first forecast covering the 2005/06 winter (the North Atlantic Oscillation Report) and it 'places the winter of 2005/06 among the coldest third of winters over the last 50 years of the 20th century'.

Time to get some warmer bike gear.

All the best

Keith

How accurate do those forecasts tend to be?

I best get a heated blanket, my Ducati will need it for those cold nights. Still taking it through winter though, I was going to get a commuter bike but I think the monster can do it.

Think yourselves lucky that you get the option of riding through the winter!!
Here in Finland there is only about a month or two left of the biking season, then we've got months of sub -20C, ice, snow and perpetual darkness! Even after a few years living here it takes a bit of adjustment!

Having said that, there are always snowboards and snowmobiles to play with and ice speedway and hockey to watch - so its not as bad as it sounds!! Cool

i was going to get me a cheap and cheerful 125 an old2T preferably, like a kawisaki KC100 or something, for when its icy or been snowing...
looks like ill be wrapping up tight this winter (and for all your information we have had a really hot summer!)

hopefully this will put pressure on the govenment to FORCEFULLY deploy more wind turbines without folk in the moors "oh its an eyesore, they spoil the view" well tough shit cos if we dont there will be massive civil panic! we need power, and renewables and new nuclear plants are whats needed! its absurd to believe that fossil fules have ANY future left at all...oil prices are allover the place but generally getting higher and higher, now gas prices...
its about time big companies and politicians stopped worrying about where they can find the next bit of cheap oil/gas and work on replacing the rapidly declining resources we use now!

I'll be toasty warm & dry in a 5 series Beemer & the Busa will be toasty warm & dry in my heated garage & probably getting jealous of me working on my trusty old Mk II Guzzi Le Mans for next year's 2 months of summer. Very Happy Wink

To stop the garage becoming damp I place one of those low wattage electrical greenhouse heaters in the garage during the winter months. They operate on a thermostat so only come on when the temp drops below say 10 degrees and turn off when it reaches 15. They are ideal as you can leave them turned on 'standby' all the time and as they only kick out air at 20 degrees C they don't really effect your electricity bill Thumbs Up

When I were a lad, we had proper winters! Razz There were only a few years in which there wasn't a white Christmas, and most winters had several feet of snow at least. Indeed one particularly bad one, there were reports of 40ft snowdrifts on Orkney! Laughing

Then I moved to England and I've yet to see a snowman taller than about 3 feet, and not an igloo in sight. Sad

Last year was cold enough though, I think I learned my lesson with regards to windchill and freezing fog. Shocked Confused
