Hi

Petrol turned off? Sometimes with 2 strokes as they run out (if idling) the revs go up.

Failing that check for the carb being seated correctly to the engine and that the cables are correctly routed (throttle cable).

In my experiance between WD40 a hammer and an air gun any bolt will loose.

Header pipes can die. That was the reason I had to take the head off the XJ!

One of the head bolts wouldn't come off the XJ. 12mm bolt head, rounded off. So I 'persuaded' an 11mm socket onto it with my 'persuader' (read hammer) and managed to get it off.

I now have a halfords professional 11mm socket, with a rounded nut stuck in it...

What did you try before drilling it? If it aint rounded off and it hasn't sheared, then surely taking a drill to it is absolute worst case scenario? Thinking

The most stubborn bolt I've yet to come accross was removed by my dad with a hammer and chisel. No, he did not chisel the head off the bolt... He used the chisel so that it turned the bolt(very slowly) till it would come off the rest of the way with mole grips(the chisel destroyed the head). I've not really come accross any other nuts/bolts that wouldn't shift with a 1/2" drive ratchet and alot of shouting and swearing.

Not put any heat into it? You should give it a good roasting with a blowlamp until it is hot enough to vapourise a drop of oil then try it.

A bit of heat works wonders for seized nuts (except exhaust headers).

You'll get the nut out when you put it back on the bike, just wiggle the socket a lot.

Heating a nut on top of the engine whit it and the fuel tank still in the bike. Swallowing a nugget of potassium sounds less dangerous to me...

Only if your planning on waving the blowtorch around like an idiot, the usual idea is to just point the flame at the nut Rolling Eyes I use a welding torch, hotter and more focused, never let me down on the worst of rusted up nuts and I've rarely set fire to anything important Laughing

Well, common sense would dictate you remove the tank first. It doesn't take long and there is nothing like seeing what you are doing to get a job done properly.
