Right here's the problem.

When I first set off, it's usually ok. Then the first time I stop it seems to be groggy. I have to keep revs really low and it bursts into action. Also from normal starts it seems to be slow at acceleration.

I think it could be the fuel not getting round quickly enough, or something similar. But I'm a novice at engines so I'm hoping maybe G, Kickstart or The Old Geezer can gimme advice.

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

It's a 2-stroke right? You are letting it warm up for 5mins or so before setting off right?

2-strokes are groggy and are prone to stalling when really cold. My NSR was useless for the first 10mins into any ride Confused

Yeah I am letting it warm up plenty. It's more the grogginess after been ridden for quite a while, it's slow off the mark and feels like its going to stall, and I know it's not my technique anymore. It's just that it's really slow accelerating too, maybe it's just me that feels it's slower because I have got used to it?

That's a common problem, especially with a small engined bike. It starts to feel slow than when you first got it Laughing

Could be loads of stuff, but I'm no mechanic.

Could be blocked carbs due to dirty fuel? Tried cleaning the air filter? What's the sparkplug like?

I recently cleaned the sparkplug, and I mean clean!

Erm I toyed with the air filter today but to no avail. I will have a look at the carbs tomorrow. Oh and the engine temperature frequently comes on, what could be causing this? I think I'll have to get my Dad to inspect it all.

Cheers for your help Acid, any more help is greatly appreciated Thumbs Up

Now, this is something that the more experienced guys will know more about, but doesn't knocking/pinking/detonation cause high engine temps?

I confess to knowing nothing about each of those symptoms mentioned above - I just simply know the names!!! Laughing

Could be worth looking into Thumbs Up

Perhaps Keith (Kickstart) could provide more insight into this. It's out of my depth I'm afraid.

What bike is it? a 2t?

My ns125r is a lot like that but its just how tuned 125s are. When pulling away from lights it has very little bottom end power (a lot less than my gs125 4t) but once you get to about 7k it flys. Does yours have an aftermarket exhaust on it?

I know mine has useless bottom end power because its not got a power valve? Has yours got one and its not working?

The only other suggestion is riding style. Once mine is going in 2nd or above in low revs its okay but if you want to get it moving slip the clutch and just keep the revs in the power band until your speed matches the speed your engine is doing (if you know what i mean). I can get from 30 to 60 in about 2secs using that method. It takes some getting used to but its better than shifting down.

Erm it's a 2t Motorhispania RYZ50, with no aftermarket exhaust. I'll have to show my Dad what you have said because my knowledge of bike engines and suchlike is limited.

Thanks alot Thumbs Up
