Hey,

My mate just brought this octane booster for his derbi senda 50 and put it in his fuel tank, like it says to and he was going along with me and my bike always beats his but this time he started going in front on flat and then down hill it left me and i mean it it flew. So he pulls over and tells me he had something like 89MPH! on the clock on a geared 50! Could this octane booster really do this, he knows that it may cause engine problems like melting the ring, blowing up etc but 89MPH!

I am now thinking of buying some for my gilera dna 50 which is a automatic should it be alright?

If it was that simple tuning wouldn't exist.

I'd stay well away, It'll fuck your engine.

I used to use it in my stock cars to make it run a touch more crisp as well as advance the timing slightly.. Octane booster will not make that much difference to its performance Rolling Eyes
I'd say there was some 'bar stool bollox' going on there.

Laughing your mates talking bullshit, a friend of mine had a Derbi senda 50 and it never made that speed think he got 60mph, i have used octane boost when i use to ride mx on a 125 all it does is make the motor feel more crisp, thats all it does. Read the side of the octane boost it will tell you if it can be put in an automatic, but i can't see why not, and don't put tomuch in either!

Was this right after his bike turned into a pig, sprouted wings and flew at 89 mph?

Hi

On its own boosting the octane rating will give no extra power at all.

It is possible to mix up special fuels to get more power but the difference is going to be small without engine mods.

Feef - NOS is a trade name, and they have started selling some stuff in a can to add to the petrol tank. It is not nitrous oxide.

All the best

Keith

NOS = Nitrous Oxide Systems.

Nitrous oxide is N2O.

All the best

yes.. i know that much.. but in casual conversation, if you say you're "putting nos in your bike" I'd assume you were putting N20 in, and not "some random product from a company called 'NOS'"

The stuff your talking about doesnt realy increase performance. it has a small about of detergant that cleans your carb and engine. using it for a period of time will show only slight increase in performance. probably only making the acceleration crisper. They put fancy names on it to make boy racers think they can outrun a ferrari.

As Keith said, an octane booster only raises the knock index and allows you to run more ignition advance. If you are running a fixed ignition curve (just about any car/bike without a knock sensor) you will get no benefit. With knock sensing you will get a small increase in power and a more responsive pickup.

A lot of race fuels have a higher knock index but the main reason they increase performance is they have a higher calorific value and release more energy whe they burn.

This NOS octane booster stuff is basically a con with just enough truth in their marketing to avoid getting into trouble.

89 mph on a 49cc Derbi Senda is complete and utter bullshit.

This thread is funny! Laughing

Kinda reminds me of Doc Brown screaming "88 miles per hour!!" Laughing

A "claimed" 89MPH, down hill, with the wind behind him after putting a fuel additive in his tank! Laughing Puuuuuuuurlease!!

Funniest part is that 89MPH isn't even fast! Laughing I'm usually sitting up with my left hand on my leg at 89MPH! (Erm, going in a straight line of course... Embarassed)

Bit off topic, but another thing that makes me laugh is when I see scooter boys leaning forward over the bars, thinking they'll go faster! Now that just looks plain stupid and makes me laugh every time!! Laughing

Hey, if you slide your bum back onto the pillion seat and lie down as flat as possible, you can probably get an extra half a mile an hour top speed! Dont knock it!

Probably makes more difference than that octane rubbish!
