Hazard Perception

Hiya fellow Bikers,

i have my theory test on Friday (26th) for the third time, the reason is the Hazard perception. i have a full UK Car licence, and every time i have attemted the theory for my bike test i get 100% on the theory part, then fail on the Hazard Perception. and therefor failing my entire test, its the only thing holding me back from my practical, my instructor says i'm over ready and am "Waisting time & money" (altho its nice driving around on a bike for 6 hours with no point)

My point really is, has anyone else got a full car licence, and done the hazard perception, or if people have the same view as me "Its not designed for people who have been loose on the roads for 3 years, its for beginers"

any tips for passing it, anyone?

I've got a full car license and only had to do the multiple choice part at the time when I done the theory for it 2 years ago. Done my bike theory test two weeks ago which now includes the hazard perception part. I started studying for it the same morning that I was due to do the test. Not advisable really but I managed to scrape though it. If you've been driving a car for a while then there's no reason why you should have any difficulties with it.

What I would suggest is getting the official DSA CD-ROM and running through that for a few days so you can figure out what the test wants you to do. What I done was clicked when I seen the hazard developing as early as possible. Then clicked again when it was about to affect me. Stick to that and you should be fine. Your score will then be down to how soon you clicked.

Remember if you think you clicked too early, then click again to be sure. Just don't over click. I clicked about 2 times per clip. Twice that for the double hazard clip. There will be one of them in there somewhere.

Yeah the official CD-ROM is what I used to do my car theory, and I will use it again for the bike theory . It actually explains what is required to pass the hazard perception, after a few practive runs you will get the hang of it and will be able to pass the real thing easily

Got mine next week
Done the theory with the car in 1997 on paper when it first came out and passed first time.
Now its all done on the computer
Got the disk for the theory and the hazzard test and seems okay, still shi**ing myself though due to the fact i've booked my pratical test for next month.

Thanks for the advise guys.

I'll bare it in mind, just hope I pass, then I can run away on my Mito!

I don't need to book my practical, I know i'll have it within the next few weeks if i get through my theory, because my instructor always books in for 4 tests a month, unless he knows more than that are going to apply, then he'll book more, but down here on this little island, there isn't too many people that do it, so its not bad on speed anyway

I passed my full bike test last week...

I've had a full car license for 4 years. Also had to do the bike theory test.

Passed with full marks on questions and 55 for hazrd perception.

Can I just point out that you say hazard perception is for beginners, but if you have been driving a car for 3 years then you should sail through it then huh??? You should be getting a higher mark than a beginner who has no road experience...get me drift???

You ever had an accident?

It also proves that hazard perception is NOT just for beginners, as by failing 3 times you have just proved my point. Hazard perception on a bike is also FAR more important than when driving a car.

Oh, and another thing...

Don't get excited about your practical test, I did then it got postponed for a week due to the examiner strikes

Your instructor should find this out in advance

Thanks for that, all i'm saying about the "for beginners" is i'm clicking too early on most of them :S

The only accident i've been in, in the car, was some muppet van driver going up my a** at a junction, and on a bike, a similar one, of a car going into the side of my bike (again while i was stationary).

So, as far as that goes, i haven't "Caused" any accidents (but the whiplash insurance money from the van driver bought me a shiny bike )

We'll see what goes on friday

Got my theory on tues 20th, feelin ok bout the multiple choice bit, not so for the hazard bit. From what i've read on here, it should be ok, been driving since '98 so hopefully i'lll get through it ok

Hi,

I have done my HP test back in November and passed it the first time round ... and have been driving the car for about 10 years now.

The trick is to react as if you were a new driver. When you see the hazrd react to it about 4/5 times ... so if it is a van in a side road click as you see it and as it approached the main road you are coming from. Just make sure no more than 6 times each video - with the exception of the double hazard - and not to click after the hazard has passed.

The trick was suggested to me by my instructor down in eastbourne ... and as already said passed it first time around with 62 points!!!

It is only understanding how the tet work being designed for first time users who will constantly concentrate on one hazard at the time whilst an experienced users will acknowledge it once nd again if needed but not constantly!

I know in reality it doesn't work that way but ... c'est la vie!

Doh ! I forgot to say that i passed the theory back last month !
Got 33 out of 35 and 64 out of 75 i think out of the hazzard test.
Got the main one soon !

Have you bought the Hazard perception CDs for your PC.

You can get em from Amazon.co.uk

I bought em (I had a car license for 16 years), spent 2 hours a night for about 2 weeks practising.

Passed first time.
