I know you should run the bike in for 1000 miles to prevent premature wear on the cylinder bore, but does reving over 5k when say 300 miles on the clock damage the engine,I also de-restricted it at about 250 miles would this have an affect? |

the revving doesnt really matter that much....just basically means dont put to much stress on the engine...as for de-ristriction i would advise atleast 1000miles before doing it. ____________________ Bikes owned :- 2001 nsr125, 1999 zx6r, 2006 yzf-r1, 2009 xmax 250, 2012 yzf-r1, 2015 MT-07

The process of running in is to get the oil/fuel flowing through and gradually reducing the imperfections that were created during the manufacturing process. I'd say that the main problem with derestricting halfway through the running in process is getting used to the change in power delivery, which could increase the risk of the rider causing harm with too many revs.
But as Craig pointed out, as long as you don't labour the engine or sustain a period of revs over the suggested running-in rev range, then occasionally "going over" should be fine. ____________________ TiN
