I know you should run the bike in for 1000 miles to prevent premature wear on the cylinder bore, but does reving over 5k when say 300 miles on the clock damage the engine,I also de-restricted it at about 250 miles would this have an affect? Confused Confused Confused

the revving doesnt really matter that much....just basically means dont put to much stress on the engine...as for de-ristriction i would advise atleast 1000miles before doing it.

I paid attention to the riding it in for about 600 miles. got bored with it then. got it serviced at about 850 miles to be told how the engine was in perfect condition

Take it easy for a bit longer with it. And Honda might well turn round and tell you to stick your warrenty if they notice it has been derestricted

I don't se the derestriction being a serious prob, after all you're just letting the engine be used in teh way it was designed.

would it not even help the engine,
as you wouldnt have to push it so hard to get the same speed, varible reducing your revs and giving the engine a bit of an easier time?

The process of running in is to get the oil/fuel flowing through and gradually reducing the imperfections that were created during the manufacturing process. I'd say that the main problem with derestricting halfway through the running in process is getting used to the change in power delivery, which could increase the risk of the rider causing harm with too many revs.

But as Craig pointed out, as long as you don't labour the engine or sustain a period of revs over the suggested running-in rev range, then occasionally "going over" should be fine.
